Camping/Fishing trip. Scottish Island

Recommended Posts

Morning all........

Just back from a great camping trip on a Scottish Island, with the kids and a couple of friends. (Location, for those that want to know by PM only I'm afraid)

We went across on Saturday and got back yesterday afternoon.

The general plan was to take my boat across which I finished getting sea worthy after its refurb on Friday night icon_redface.gif

I've had the boat for about a year, and it was bought as a project, needing desperate amounts of work.blink.gif and a new trailer.doh.gif Which I literately got back from the galvanisers on the Friday morning toast.gif, so a lot of effort was required to finish her before we set off. But he travelled well on his new shoes.. Thanks to my mate who helped get it finished......

However, I think you'll agree the nearly finished end result was well worth the effort..

It still needs a few bits of fettling... (Bigger engine would help) angel.gif

We wanted to try a few new fishing spots, that were slightly out of range from the rocks. We got out for a full day, but the weather and sea state proved too much for parts of other days, so we couldn't put the distance in required to get to the marks, so resorted to rock fishing.

We did however manage to feed our selves with decent catches where required.

The highlights being, Flame grilled pollock, Hot smoked pollock, Hot smoked pollock Kedgeree, Cockles au mariner...etc..etc.

The kids had a ball with the crab fishing, and we had put a few pots pots out as well for the lobster, but were unfortunate.

This was just one of the magnificent fish we caught.

Most importantly, the kids were out about, rather than in front of the television and xbox. And the first thing they said when we got back, was when are we going again..

There are more pictures, but I'd only bore you biggrin.gif

Cant wait for the next trip, hopefully the weather will be more settled so we can plan to anchor up for some of the other species.

Thanks to all the locals, who helped make the trip special.thumbs.gif

We'll be back soon again..

Brilliant photos mate. Your a braver man than me going into the sea with a small engine mate, I've seen it change in a heart beat from dead calm to 4 foot breakers..... Looked like you had good weather

Nah, not brave, at all mate, I'm a big scardy cat........ I refused to go out on 2/3 of the five days...... For me its a matter of judgement given current weather conditions, and forecast.... and of course local advice is very important.

We circumnavigated where we were and were never more than 1 mile from the shore.. Albeit may be 5-10 mile journeys.

I make it a priority never to mess with safety in the sea.........thumbs.gif

Had a cracking time though..
