fieldsman 51
A good dog is one your happy with it does,nt matter what the dog can or cannot do some one will call it for one thing or another as long as you think its worth feeding and is,nt a liability , not many dogs are perfect, it does fill you with pride when you go out with some one else and you see the dog you own put the other dog to shame not just because of what it catches as numbers are,nt the all but by the way it conducts it,s self .On a few occasions I,v been out with well bred and capable dogs but the behaviour of said dog was,nt the best.In my humble opinion a good dog is not just a see and slip it must at least walk to heel and retrieve at least some of the way back I know some dogs are stubborn to say the least when it comes to retrieving .On questioning the dogs owner I was told it was a good dog if it came back,I suppose what I,m trying to say is peoples views on what is or is not a good dog will differ and very few will expect the same standards of there dogs.I would rather have a dog that is well trained and catches an average bag than a 6 out of 6 fen dog that you have to spend hours trying to catch. For what its worth I never think it,s the dogs fault it seems to be the same group of people that have these dogs . 1 Quote Link to post

Totally agree mate spot on as long as the owner is pleased with his dog that all that counts forgot to say the owner as to have standards aswell if a dog catches the quarry the owner wishes to hunt and does it well that what counts theres dogs out there what wouldnt be anygood to some folk but would suit another man 1 Quote Link to post
