treankare666 10
Just going along the lines of applause here, this is basically the pieces of the puzzle, i have many times sat down and looked at tthe terriers of the british isles and thought somehow this are all interacted just knowing how to priduce the specific type of dog and breed to it cose and then it is done. All breeds also need some from another to make them unique, i read that before putting russels in the whippets was standard every 5 generation. I think though that when these people made these different dogs that today go under common name patterdale or else, they were breeding to type in the beginning then workability, probably the dogs had to prove to be workers but not the ace of spades, to maintain. %-wise the workability will be lost in the beginning but keeping litters and culling hard yu can work back the workethic in the the dogs and still keep the shell. p3d 879
Seen plenty of Lakies showing Beddy influence pd3, even owned one in the 's, he was half Tyson, half Cowan bred, nowt else in him and he threw back with a linty coat and top knot if not stripped. Always thought it was from the Cowan blood, along with his rangy shape and narrow front, Cyrils dogs wern't like this. I have a Border bitch which shows the signs of a top knot Bosun11. When you strip the coat you can feel the linty hair on the top of the head. Could the top knot have come from the original dogs, before Bedlington, Dandie, Border, Lakeland and Fell were split up. So that any evidence of a top knot might be a throw back to the first terriers? I don't know enough about Cowens dogs, but believe I saw a Tyson terrier years back imported into Ireland. It looked like a Black and Tan Lakeland, solid type with a hard coat. ATB. Quote Link to post
Mosby 355
If the topknot does depict the bedlington, then I've had two fell jagd crosses with very obvious linty topknots. I pluck the stuff off. The Jagdterriers have this occasionally as well. I'm not sure it would point back to beddy necessarily. But it could. I've had a fox terrier cross that was long linty coated with a smooth face but a fluffy topknot. Quote Link to post
