first ever outing on pigeons.

Recommended Posts

I recently got my SGC so wanted to get started asap, so I borrowed a s/s AYA from a friend. On the first day we set up on a field of peas alongside two other decoyers who normally have great success on this farm. now I have been working on this farm for a couple of months now and normally see pigeons in their hundreds, on this day however nil! we couldn't see any for miles. we spent the best part of 6 hours on this farm. in the end we gave up and went to a nest of rats and shot them instead. I shot my first ever pigeon in that forest and the only pigeon we saw in the area. the next day we went to another farm and set up on some flattened rape, this proved successful, as soon as we got in our hide a pigeon flew in. as it was our first day shooting pigeons we were not great, missing quite a few. eventually we got the hang of it and had some great sport in-between a lot of sitting around. the pattern we had proved great with them coming exactly to where we wanted them. using shot birds as floaters we kept increasing the pattern, they stopped coming in at around 2 in the afternoon but the experience has got us hooked on decoying and im currently in the process of making a pigeon magnet. The strange thing was that the pigeons seemed to be in the trees most of the time and we hardly ever saw any on fields.... anyone else in essex area noticed this, as i work and drive around im always looking out for pigeons and have never seen so few about. after packing away the decoys we headed to a forest where i know pigeons frequently fly over and shot 2 there which was great
