simonrocco 175
i dont look up to anyone im just happy if my dog catches and kills whatever i send it for and if you ve got a dog that will take all the quarry your on to a good thing the only people that i dont like are the dick heads that dont respect the land or quarry that there after like leaving stuff dead in middle of fields for all to see other than them i think we're all equal. 1 Quote Link to post

Of course you are entitled to your opinion but why are 'proper dog men' either terriers or lurchers when Gundogs are trained to a higher standard.......this imo obviously... Quote Link to post

How do you work that one out lab? Considering your bricking it to take on a staffy at your own game.... I know a staffy couldn't do a lurchers job any where near as good... Quote Link to post

baw 4,360
You've been nosing about the lurched section enough now to realize speed isn't everything or we'd all be running greyhounds.... Your average alsation could become a gun dog... Quote Link to post

Your average alsation could become a gun dog... Yes thats because speed isn't essential......come on mate you know this.... What i was getting at was actually the owner of the dog......why are lurchermen and terriermen top of the tree.....i just thought that someone who works Gundogs would put in the hours to get to a decent standard. Your right alot of breeds could do a Gundogs job up to a standard......still takes alot of work though eh?.... Quote Link to post
baw 4,360
I think lurcherman are top of the tree cos your on the lurcherman side of the site lol. Personally, labs, cockers etc don't even enter my head when I think of working dogs. To me a working dog is just that, a dog that can do the work on it's own. Not a dog that needs someone to shoot the chosen quarry first!!!! But a dog that can hunt, jump, KILL, carry all by itself. If I need assistance in finding wounded animals I would give up shooting. dytkos 17,801
Gun dogs are dogs for people who shoot. Terriers and lurchers do all the graft and don't need somebody with a gun to help them finish the job. Simples Cheers, D. Quote Link to post
Penda 3,341
Even though i am a lurcher and terrier man i do take my hat off to the lads with the well trained gun dogs because they are A+ dogs ive saw some really good dogs at work and you do see the difference ive saw peg dogs that have had pheasant land right under there noses and they havent even batted an eye lid until theyve been told to me that is amasing Quote Link to post
