Gaz_1989 9,539
Have a guess at quantity and watch your dog. If he starts putting weight on then reduce food and vice versa. I am feeding once a day now, twice if they have had a big walk or been lamping etc etc. Think variety and you won't go wrong. I get minced lamb breast and beef heart from a bloke I know for 50p per lb. Real good stuff. Lurcher gets 1.5lb and terrier 0.5lb. Feed this twice a week. I get racks of lamb for 15p each, they get one each a couple of times a week. I get 800g minced green tripe for 75p, one of these between them, once or twice a week. I get bags of butchers waste (various fat, bits of steak, beef burgers, sausage, various offal) for 25p/lb. Lurcher gets 2lb terrier 1lb once a week. Then on a Sunday I mix up 6 bags of the above with a few bag of frozen veg (carrots, peas, broccolli etc) and boil up in a big pot. Then freeze in lb bags. Feed this once or twice a week. And if and when I forget to get any of the above meals out I feed the lurcher 2 slices brown bread and 2 raw eggs, terrier 1 slice brown bread and 1 egg. I think that's about it. They sometimes get chicken wings if my lady gets some from tesco, same with diced turkey thigh if it was on offer. Think variety and you won't go far wrong. Gaz_1989 9,539
Forgot to add, when they get the egg and bread meal I usually chuck either a tin of tuna in sunflower oil with it or a good glug of olive oil. Keeps the cost looking lovely.
