halloween man 12 Posted April 13, 2011 Report Share Posted April 13, 2011 A good friend of mine who goes out hunting with me, would like to apply for his own firearms cert,he suffers from Neuropathic Pain and takes the following drugs gabapentin 3 times a day, 1 amitrytilline before bed and 50mg pethadine for severe pain, this one is not taken very often, should he apply for on cert or is he wasting his time thanks. matt_hooks 188 Posted April 13, 2011 Report Share Posted April 13, 2011 I'm not sure what the issue would be with this. Neuropathic pain is not a mental illness, so there is no added risk there. People take all sorts of pain killers and other psycho active drugs with no problems. I guess the risk would come if there was a danger of him not being able to properly control the weapons due to the illness, or the drugs. The only real way to test it is to talk to the doctor, and see what he/she says. Hopefully they won't be "anti", but if they are he can always ask for a second opinion. Talk to the doc, talk to the FEO, and see what they say. It's always worth the ask. Quote Link to post
