Cheers Pretty much all animal welfare laws come down to unnecessary suffering. Unless you have a suitable calibre rifle/shotgun or access to the appropriate meds then let the vet do it. The first guy got a mate to look after his dog for 6 months and claimed he had had it put down. I think he just acted the part and they bought the story, and even if they don't believe you how could they expect paperwork? The second time was actually with a wolf, but that time he just used some old paperwork and forged it I think. I really don't think anyone puts the time in to checking the graves of every dog in the country. But its difficult to get the dog back if your neighbours recognise it and might grass, so you might have to move house. I would move for my dog if I had to. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

gnasher16 30,025 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Share Posted April 14, 2011 Its a tricky law this that i dont think is exactly black and white....im pretty sure the whole matter is about whether there was unecessary suffering of the animal......for instance,how many of us have had a litter of pups and culled unwanted or unhealthy pups ? where do we stand on that....a friend of mine years ago had a knock after a vindictive ex bird phoned rspca to say he had culled some young pups,which he had.....rspca wanted proof which he obviously didnt have....nothing came of it and i dont think they really knew the law themself.......but its certainly a tricky one.
