woodchip 2
Well as you may know or not charlie my ferret is doing well so far , he has yet to bolt a bunnie yet but from what you guys are saying to me im lucky to get him down a hole as he was brought as a pet, anyway ive been asked to ferret a golf course in september and i dont want to look like a twat with a ferret who is a bunnie virgin, im thinking of getting a pair a jill who have been working and know what there doing thought this may help charlie as well and hopefully bolt the bunnies on the course. Is this a good idea? Any ideas where i can get working ferrets from? in the south of england. Quote Link to post

MR TEA POT 1,287
Hi mate you will struggle to buy a working ferret a good one anyway they are rare, its very rare that people with a good working ferret will ever sell it,there are many ferrets advitised as good workers but they have probably got some fault like skulking just inside the hole instead of coming to hand or they are biters.Imo stick with the ferret you have got and given time he will come good, don't be in a rush to get him working he will take to it in his own time, never force the ferret, you could buy some young ferrets this year and get them going in september,a ferret that you have bought up handled ever day so you know it won't bite or be shy to come to hand.Once ferrets have seen their first rabbit there is no holding them back. All the best mate Quote Link to post
martin 332
You'll be fine mate........you don't need to train a ferret,it will learn itself. As said earlier as soon as it gets at one rabbit there will be no holding him.I would also rather start with a young one that you can handle well,so you know they won't worry about you picking them up,and that means you shouldn't get a skulker.Although in my experience skulking is usually a passing phase.Hope you get sorted and have a good time on the golf course(seems you fell on your feet there. Kay 3,709
You wont look a twat if you persevere with this hob, you will however look a twat if you give him up at the first hurdle, just have faith in him & he will serve you well He just needs a few outings under his belt , it must be a bit daunting for even a ferret to find themselves in all them dark places , so just give him a break & he will come round Quote Link to post

Guest JRTman
Over the years often on a young ferrets first few trips I've thought this uns no good then bang out comes a bunny with ferret in pursuit & the young un has gone zero to hero in a few seconds.Patience is the key, some young ferrets even some older ones benefit from having a bit of a walk out in an open field before work just to get rid of their initial excitement & then make them work more thoroughly. Guest The Big Fish
just wondering are those 4ft net's 10oz by any chance and are they for sale They are spun nylon, say about 6z in thickness, and may well be for sale, got a pile of them sat here, never used, surplus to requirements.
