baw 4,360
Do you think if teachers wore a uniform it would help give them respect? I know a uniform works with most workplaces where respect is needed, what you think?
Ideation 8,216
My daughter is a teacher , works late into the night most nights ,and invests a hell of a lot of her free time , energy and emotion into the well being of her students , she is fighting a constant battle with financial constraints and apathetic and sometimes obstructive parents . It,s taking the easy way out blaming teachers , and by the way she,s small and petite but has no problems with classroom disciplin , maybe because she,s interested in them . Im sure theres some cracking teachers out there what im saying is they have their hands tied to what most of us would regard as common sense.....to me an art teacher taking a pe class is barmy !....the power of a teacher has been reduced to nothing, thats not their fault but the dogooding pc world we live in....years ago being sent to the headmasters office would fill a kid with dread now they probably dont give a monkeys.....the respect between child and teacher has gone completely so the fact that for most kids the first experience of real life qualities such as discipline, hard work, respect etc start at a school where the teachers are more wary of the kids than the kids are wary of the teachers......cannot be a good thing. What your saying is right mate, but most of the problems stem from outside school and come in, the kids absorb what they see outside and they just have a 'f**k this' attitude, all they want to do is smoke weed, get pissed and try to get laid, and their thinking is there are no jobs anyway, so f**k it. And a lot of their parents have/had no respect for the school etc so its passed on and grows.

Smoke weed, get pissed and try to get laid........at 5 ? if im not wrong kids start school at 4 or 5.....if by 12/13/14 they are doing the things you mention im sure schools must take at least a bit of responsibility having had 7 odd years with them. That said if a teacher/school cant discipline a kid without fear of being sacked for mistreatment......then what chance do they have. Schools have kids for about 31 and a quarter hours in a week. There are 168 hours in a week. Not to mention holidays etc. One lot are your teachers, the other your friends and family. Where's the bigger pull? And you take the time to try to sort the kids out socially / emotionaly and someone else is screaming what about results? And my kid? and mine? and mine 2? And like you said if you touch them or say owt wrong your f****d. And you have the parents down the school threatening other kids, other parents and staff.
Stanleigh 135
Rightly or wrongly the days of corpral punishment or putting the fear of god into kids has gone , even expulsion isn,t an option ( a school loses 6 grand funding for every kid it expels ) so with these handicaps plus reaching unrealistic results , the only way a teacher can keep good order and actually teach the kids something is by keeping them interested and gaining thier respect . There are a lot of dedicated people for whom teaching is a vocation , the government keep putting obstacles in the way in the name of pc and things will change. mad al 146
the two "proper" teachers at the school I am in contact with were really pissed off last night.........kids were unruly and not listenin and basically laughin in their faces I couldn't be a teacher because I'd flip and resort to the old "clip around the ear" but I tell ya what......... it worked in my day 'cos we knew our fu.ckin place

We had teachers you wouldnt have dared backchat to,one old boy Mr Bishop i still see him today lovely old boy loves his boxing we always have a chat....doesnt mean i wasnt petrified of him as a kid....they just commanded a different respect to what they do now....i know its another " the old ways were the best ways "....but in this instance its hard to see otherwise. 6pack 60
I think the whole education system is at fault, teachers have rules and regulations, boundaries and red tape that they have to stick to. A production line system turning out production line worker ants bound by their age and not their capabilities. Just as there are over zealous parents (when was it wrong to want the best for your child?) there are over worked teachers, high expectations for minimal outlay backed by an authority with nothing but self preservation in mind. I'm one of those parents - a teacher has no right to lay a hand on my child. Teachers are there to teach the next generation and it is not done by bullying and domineering. Respect does not come from hitting the hardest.
