baldockbanks courser 598
to be fair a lot of saluki lurcher you would not dream of trying to train. iv raised two from diffrent liters exactlie the same. one wouldnt leave your side the other would get you locked up, unless you runned the guts out of it youd be kidding her up to get her to come close and then shed run off, and Im sure most coursing men have had or know of one like this. 2 Quote Link to post

joshcg 0
@You want yor dogs point and shoot when your hare coursing most the hares you get up on you see them the dogs dont hunt them out i have no pup at the moment, but thanks. Dont listen to rubbish from people who dont keep them ! There are many different lines and they cant all be lumped together. Some are as bidable and trainable as any other type of lurcher ,you need to get a pup out of that kind of stuff So you need to get a pup from a certain line for them to be bidable hmmmmmmmmmmmm, I can smell money Expect 2 dozen pms good man............ Whats wrong with different lines having different qualities !? Dont sell dogs !! Nothing wrong with it, but I'd expect a dog being bidable and trainable as one of the lowest qualities, wouldn't you? The actual thought there are dogs being bred that can't be trained is f*****g laughable. They can all be trained , it depends on the degree of trainig your talking about. I dont know what kind of lurcher work you do other than run a few hares in small fields, but if you choose to dismiss modern coursing dogs as rubbish , you are missing out big time . Do you think we re all wrong !? Tell me then, what level of training does a fen dog need compared to a running dog in Scotland? You lot have it easy with your point and shoot muts......... We hunt mate, i know thats a concept you guys find hard to grasp but look it up, it'll open a whole new way of life to you Quote Link to post

shaaark 10,744
mines so clever that if a hare makes a break on them they wont waste there valuable energie and come strait back ready for the next run. I didnt even teach them this they just do it. Would that not be called a jacker if it had a bit of collie in it? Quote Link to post

iceman001979 1,316
Most off the time the dog will get the blame for not doing what its told and everybody always as something to say but most time its not the dog but the man or women behind the dog. To quick in lifting the hand or boot instead off taking there time with the dog. Quote Link to post

bird 9,873
bond with a pup. plenty of early socialization take it everywere with you. decide what you want the pup to do [training wise]take one step at a time.patience perseverence, end a training session on a good note.take into account the temperament of the pup. they are not all the same some are sensitive, some strong willed etc.adjust your training technique to the pups temperament. just because it has saluki in it doesnt mean it cant be trained. ive had collie crosses that have been difficult at times.let it be a pup. only enter it to quarry when you are happy with its training and you feel it is mentally and physically ready.some pups mature quicker than others. One of the best posts ive seen on this forum, youve either got it or you havent, its in the blood with me good threads , ive always thought a good coursing dog x to a colliexgrey would make a good day time+night time dog, as you still getting the collie in there to make it biddable.!
