I judge at championship show level and find it quite easy to judge which animal dog or bitch is better constructed. Last time I judged last year the bitches in general were better than the dogs and the bitch won Best of Breed. She went on to take 3rd in the group ( under a different judge) behind two other bitches! Judging more recently at an Open Show I again put another Bitch Best of Breed. Are you seriously saying all handlers can handle as well as each other - if so why are there so many professional handlers in the US and big international shows - simple answer they get the best out of a dog. I have watched many terrier/lurcher classes where in my opinion the best dog didn't win because the handler did not get the best out of the dog. We have listed our classes, we have listed our prizes which are amongst some of the best anywhere, we have provided a great venue which is part of the fair and has good ringside parking and we have put this in the setting of what will be the best fair ever run at Ballywalter and one of the best in the country. We are not hiding anything so people have the choice as to whether they come or not. If they do come and pay at the gate they get a FREE ticket for Shanes Castle. Instead of looking for something or anything to criticise I would ask you to look at things objectively and positively rather than completely negatively. pigsy 34
For goodness sake Albert we talking about walking a dog around a 20foot square and standing them we are not professional handlers in the US big international. This is heading a lot towards ped showers who go to classes to learn to to stand and walk the dogs not blokes who walk the dogs on a aslip rope and a lamp in other hand Does any of the the shows in the uk or Ireland have lady and gents handing prehaps I am being naive here And regarding the dogs and bitches in the same heat. Same number of entries into the ring one prize between the dog and bitches, Why not have the judge pick out best dog best bitch from each heat Racing is there a prize for second place in the racing heats. And reserver award in the finals of the overs unders and whippets ?
AlbertJ 569
em what county is this in? The Fair is in Ballywalter Co.Down and much as we would like to have you up here - you can qualify for either /or both Championships - the Five Nations and Master Mc Grath at Johnny Dicker's Show in Kilkenny. However I would be delighted to see you come up to Shanes Castle for the final! Still waiting for the arrival of our Master Mc Grath qualifiers caps but we now have the artwork for the Master Mc Grath qualifying certificates ( see attached)to be printed on parchment. The borders have been specially designed and drawn by hand by Ingrid Houwers, The illustration is from a photograph of Master McGrath outside Brownlow House and the Name of the owner, their dog's name and the qualifying show will be inserted in an appropriate style by my fellow director Philip Lawton who has no mean hand when it comes to caligraphy.
