jigsaw 11,865
After a phone call on Friday night I decided to try and knock over another few goats for the farmers. On Saturday morn I left at 6.30.a.m. and hit the hills at just after 7.40.Gun loaded and ready for action,Taz jumping with joy at being out and about. From 8.30 the heat was unreal which made for very hard going. We tried all the usual places and then sread out left and right but after 4 hrs of searching I decided to hell with them,I went back to the van and around the other side of the mountain into the forestry.Left the gun and walked down into the valley. It was a very good test for Taz as the sheep were crashing through the cover out onto the path and runing to hide in the heavy cover on the opposite side.If ever there was a time when a dog might loose composure and attack farm stock then this was it,but in fairness to Taz she stood her ground, twitched every now and again when a sheep would make a burst in front of us but I never had to pull her once. She seemed very interested in the lambs but I think for the first time I saw the kelpie side take over her and her herding instincts really kicked in.She was mad keen shuffleing up to them but not to attack, she was determined to turn em back the other way.Anyway an enjoyable walk even if I didnt get in a shot. What I did see Taz do was stop and stare at every sheep hiden in cover and on hills and rocky outcrops, just like when were hunting the goats, shes spot on with locating anything hidden to the eye, heres a few photos of the day. nice easy climbing dont ye think Taz spots the lambs, licking her lips she was, lol. to make things more interesting they run straight back to us then just to make sure shes stock steady, they turn and leg it.When she didnt flinch at this point I reckoned she was a safe bet. everywhere you looked there were sheep hidden away in the scrub cover. scentry duty on the edge. Shes learnt a new trick lately, she'll stick her head under water to retrieve any random stones she sees, where she got this I have no idea. The seasons only just over and im bored allready, lol.there could be a lot more of this shite before september gets here. Edited April 9, 2011 by jigsaw 3 Quote Link to post

KenKeeping 13
Now is the time I spos to get more of that bonding in. Spending quality time with your dog! Not having it to expect to be running around like a bullet all the time, just a relaxing walk about! I love it with my pup, just to spend that lone time together, getting to know more about each other, and keeping a watch on what he's interested in as things apear from the undergroath. Its all new to me as well as the Sal, so we both got learning to get on with. Iv'e looked at the countryside in a different way since Iv'e had Aladdin. Usualy driving through the place with my 4x4, miss everything. its good to see your dog eccepting the sheep, hope my Sal will get better, he's not agresive, just as a pup is a pup, wants to play, so never off lead when around sheep at moment. Good pics. 1 Quote Link to post

jigsaw 11,865
Paid, thats a good hour from where I live but its a great spot for sure.Peace and quiet is priceless. Malt all I do is feed her and walk her,she takes care of the rest, lol. Ken,a good plan is to get chating with a farmer, find what fields he keeps the rams in and then let him loose.....THE RAMS WILL DO THE REST Staffs R/R theres a few deer, lots of fox and pine martins im told, never seen any.God only knows what else, the place is vast and you could find anything there.I was told the eagles released from Kerry have been seen there regular.I actually love the isolation there, you could run naked through the forestry there without a worry of being seen 1 Quote Link to post
