BLACKBOB 9
Just bought one of these for my lurcher as hes started barking through the nights, im trying to follow the instructions as advised but dont understand how to test it, where on the instructions it says to let a streaked object slide over the barking detection electrodes What does this mean ? Cheers bob
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Sounds like they mean a 'Bar Code', Bob. Something to intermittantly disrupt the sensor. Why not give it a try and see what happens?
Guest baldie
Bob, it means a knife with a serrated edge on it, so it vibrates across the electrodes. eg, a breadknife.

Guest baldie
This is the truth, i put it to my own neck, and barked. It isnt pleasant either, but i wanted to know how unpleasant, before i used it on my dog.The instructions actually say a "shagreened" knife, which i took to mean serrated. Rainmaker 7
Passing it over raised wallpaper, artex, indeed anything not smooth, tends to work as well. I suppose there will be brand variations though. Used properly they're a top tool. Keep an eye on them though, I had one go faulty and burn a hole in my bull's neck (not that she complained, I only found it later in the day). Best to try other methods first imho, such as addressing the reason the dog's barking/whining in the first place rather than just addressing the symptoms (i.e. noise). Good luck

My instructions said exactly as ive written them, but you were bang on baldie, i tried the knife and it worked, fixed the electrode test bulb, and it worked, was up there at 1am this morning in the blizzard as he was barking for an hour non stop, switched it on, set it at full blast and put it on him. Not a F*****g peep all night RK i tried everything you can think of, walking him late, locking him in late, leaving him in the run, not feeding him till lock up time, the list is endless. but he only dose it every now and again, its not every night so im only using the coller as and when it happens. only at night as i dont give a monkeys in the day. Guest Ditch_Shitter
Full Blast? Steady on, Bob! In my experiance mate, one should Never go nuclear as a first option. I try to tell these farmers this about the rat bait they favour. They, in turn, have told me the same about my own electric fencing. Aside from the fact that going straight to full tends to be an anger / frustration driven thing (neither doing us any good, around animals, in the long run) isn't it just a bit unnecassery? I've never used an electric collar myself. Not that I wouldn't, if I found the need to, 'mind. But the Expert Trainers do say to use them with a clear head and caution. I happily use electric fences, of course. Answer to every small holders / stock keepers dream! (Except for where f*cking Goats are concerned! They'd walk along a Conductor Rail to get their own damn way!) But I've only ever set mine to half power, max. I've brushed it. I Know! Does the trick with plenty to spare Must say - I shouldn't smile, but; F*ck it! - my Small Dog is both crazy about my donkey and also given to leaping up and down in the air. Especially around him. One day he was standing just short of the dreaded white tape when she came rushing out to adore him. Leapt up and down a bit (Damnit, now I'm openly laughing at the memory!) and caught that tape right under her little arm pits! Slid down about four foot of it, screaming her f*cking head off and wriggling like an eel! Been on Full it'd likely have killed her. I know collars like yours can't, practically, do that. But like I say; Always best to keep something in reserve. And don't let the bugger learn that collar on means torment. Collar off means open season on the neighbourhood either Please do come back in a month and let us know how it's all gone
BLACKBOB 9
Cheers for that DS, i did think about the settings as there is only two, low and high, but as the dog stands at nearly 28ins and is a well built dog, i made the decission to put it on high. The result so far not a peep last night again. But reflecting on what you said, tonight im going to reduce the setting as he,s had a taste of it now and maybee the minor stimulation will now be a gentle reminder. Hopeing then to eventually reduce it to the bleeping only and no shock, hopefully by then the feeling of the probes on his neck and the audio will result in silence. I know this seems arse backwards but it says on the instructions that when starting, use the audio first, but this will undoubtely not achive anything, but will get the dog used to the coller. After three sleepless nights and work through the day, the body and brain couldnt take much more, so to put the coller on, knowing it wasnt going to achive nothing was very demanding on me, needless to say, by 1am the first night with the coller on audio only, I lost it and went full tilt, i could have gone for the low setting but if id gone back to bed and he started up again, well it could have been easy to go for the cabinet. As we all know sleep depriviation is a well known form of torture, and it dose funny things to a persons mind, things got so bad that even when he was quiet on full tilt, i could still hear him barking in my mind. I will keep you updated on progress Cheers bob
