supersam 64
cheers lad it took what i call a black pennal variant that i tied myself. instead of a orange with black tip tail i tied it with a yellow tail. normal black body with silver wire rib but a brown hackle instead of black. was a size 14 hook a bit of a made up fly lol the salmon i caught was an alaskan king salmon though so hence the weight lol i know 4 1/2 lb aint really big for uk and especially wales standards as ye have some huge specimens caught every year.lucky feckers lol. Aye i was guessing that salmon wasn't from down the road. Aye, we get some cracking sewen in these parts, but still that's a lovely fish. cheers lad. ya give it a go ya never know till ya try it lol. i tried the typicial silver invicta which i heard was after taking a few trout, tried the peter ross and the teal blue and silver. when i took that fish i had that black pennal on the point fly, mallard and claret on the middle dropper and had another made up fly which kind of looks like the macaw dabbler as top dropper. i was thinking that the flashy top dropper would get a fishes attention and mabey they would then take one of the others. dont know if that was the case but i did catch a few other trout that day but they werent of any size. Ideation 8,216
I find that a lot mate, they come up hard for the top dropper, decide against it, turn back down and snap the point fly as they go past it. Quote Link to post
