Restoring my r10 stock back to its former glory

Recommended Posts

Hi lads,

I’ve been working on my r10 stock again today to try and bring it back to its former glory  .

All I did was to give it a 2 hour coating of Nitromores paint stripper followed by a scrub in warm soapy water to get all the old wood paint off that was hiding my stocks natural grain  .

I then give it a light sanding with a very fine glass paper before adding 2 coats of Colron wood dye in Burmese teak colour allowing it to dry between each coat.

The final thing I did was to give it 2 coatings of boiled linseed oil to bring it back to its former glory :boogie: .

Here is the result.

Now, if I may say, that looks better as a natural walnut stock Si. I'm a traditional man when it comes to rifle stocks. Give me beautiful Turkish or American walnut and deep blueing always. Paint a plain, uninspiring beech or a synthetic; dip them even. But a nicely figured walnut like this is a pleasure to own.

And this is one beautiful shooting rifle mate. I loved it at first shot.

All the best buddy.

Simon
