Sorry, not bleached like it usually is from butchers

It's better untreated, my brother in law feeds his lurcher on it. I don't give it to mine though cos when I have in the past she's stunk the house out for the next couple of days :icon_eek:

what does this bleached do ,only reason i,m asking is i get tripe form my local abetrer and i do,nt think its bleached

I think the only purpose of bleaching it is to make it more appealing for humans. Don't think it does anything else.

Been offered by local farm shop a full cut of untreated (not bleached) tripe, anyone fed this before and whats the nutrition in it?

i would have thought that most of the tripe you buy is not bleached. i feed mine on it and its green in colour

Every butcher I asked around here all they had was bleached stuff as apparently they said they cant sell it unbleached. This is coming straight from the abbotoir but through the local farm shop as it's from their cattle.

just make sure it is washed properly, cut it into about 1,lb. weights, place it into plastic freezer bags, and freeze for a week or more, freezing kills all parasites, and then use as you require for your dog, I use this as a mixer with other good meat, and a mixer biscuit, or brown bread nuggets, I do not know the nutritional, values, it contains a lot of fats, and it is a very cheap way of maintaining a dog out of work over the summer months,

Probably as mentioned above butchers are intending it for human consumption so that may be why, the tripe from your farm shop will be fine but may be more expensive then alternative raw food suppliers (for dogs)

Thanks for the advice just found this article: http://www.truecarnivores.com/greentripe.shtml

says that the bleached tripe has almost no nutritional value, I'd been asking around my area for a while about it but so far that was the only place I could get to supply it. I might try contacting the abbotoir direct next time see if it's any cheaper.

Just read on the internet it's often cut down through the summer for working dogs but used as a conditioner when coming up to the start of the season. I like to keep my dogs fairly fit year round though - don't rabbit through the summer but a fair bit of ratting and general exercise they'd go off their heads if I didnt keep them ticking over
