sako 23
Eyes won't light on anything unless you point an IR illuminated beam at it mate. Your best bet is to test them with your lamp and IR fiter sheet, then everythings eyes will light up and you'll know exactly how good the binos are.

I had a gen 1 mono where as long as the illuminator was attached to the mono, it would power up when the power button of the mono was pressed. My current gen 2+ mono has a seperate button for the illuminator. If the binos are old they could have a real low power illuminator like my old gen 1 mono which as you say would struggle to get eye shine at 20yrds but with a lamp and IR filter the mono was fine out past 100yrds. You need to find out the model of the binos to find out the exact spec or test them with an IR illuminator laser/filter to see if they'll do what you need.

bouncer 51
Let us know how you get on! tried them tonight the binoculars have not got an inbuilt ir so i use the lamp with the ir filter on and it works brilliantly.lights the place up like daylight, good bit of kit for spotting and goes a long way well pleased.only thing is you have to hold the lamp and the binos in each hand but i can put up with that. That's excellent news! It's amazing what the extra IR illumination does isn't it. Good to hear you were pleased with the result!
