my cock canarys going bald -- whats the best mite treatment .. comparred to the others he`s lost his colour aswell any advice ... he`s about 4 year old sings his self stupid all day . seems well and active just looks a bag of shit ..

i am new to aviary birds,but i know my pigeons ,and for mite treatment i use duramitex,or harkamitex as its now called.just dilute it as instructed and spray, you can also use it to dip birds but make sure you dilute it double again

i meant to say it should be the same for aviary birds,i posted to give you the name of the treatment i'm sure the supplier can advise you more .i hope this helps atb ryno

In my own aviary at the moment I have one particular hen canary who is a feather plucker even though I give them plenty of nesting material. She just uses feathers to line her nest pan. She's damaged 2 C.P. Quail and last year badly plucked another canary hen. The only reason she's still alive is because she tends to rear clutches of 4 and most of her chicks come pure white and I love white canaries. She's a cinnamin herself.

It's hard to catch them in the act and plenty of nesting material made available usually solves the problem.

I hope I'm right, it would be better than a mite infestation.

I'd be inclined to agree with Neil, its a plucking problem not a mite problem because if the bird was bald from a mite infestation when you handle him the mite would be so plentiful on him that they would be visible.

use the endectomite for pigeons one spot on cotton bud then touch on skin between shoulders works a treat clears all parasites in and out or ivomec this his the regime i use prior the breeding season have done for yrs works a treat atb bunnys .
