stubblebasher 150
Thats it see, I dont want size, I want the smallness of a whip, staminer of a Sal! As far as Sals all being braindead burners, I dissagree! Its just that they are very strong willed, and yeh, headstrong when on to something, that people are led to belive that they are ALL braindead. Can you honestly say that they are a lot worst than any sighthound when they have something in their sights and you want them back. Whats more interesing to them, a good run and a mouth full of fur at the end of it, or a slip back on the lead and a long walk home? I recon all dogs would rather the chase, and obtain selective hearing at specific moments, lol. I didnt mean salukis are brain dead , and they r the opposite to a burner ! They are willfull but inteligent , and tend to work for themselves rather than you. When crossed with a greyhound your gaining more speed but they seem to lack sence , style, and coursing ability. First crosses run like greyhounds but with a bit more stay .Put a saluki to a good allround lurcher, then your talking about something different Quote Link to post

KenKeeping 13
Ive started doing quite a bit of roadwork with Aladdin, he seems to be benefiting from it, Ime getting fitter as well, lol. Must admit though, as soon as we pass a field, he is gagging to be let loose. So I mix it now with part road and part grass. How much road work do you lot give your dogs at 10months? Cant wait for the rain to stop this week, he loses his footing on the wet grass and plays Bambie, lol. Wish I had a camera handy sometimes. He got lots to learn, but I recon he has potential! Pretty nippy already. Good to turn. Got determination when on something, whatever he's sighted, lol. Problem is cats seem to get on his nerves so they are fair game at moment, lol. Embarecing when the owners are around. Have to make him up a poster with two columns. You can chase and you cant chase, lol. Seriously though, how do you tell a dog not to chase a cat and in the next breath, encourage him to chace a rabbit. Confusing I bet? Dont want him to get too friendly with the cats mind, at least since Aladdin been with us, ive had no cat shit on the lawn. Quote Link to post
DOVEY182009 12
I see what you are saying. I wasnt so much on about keeping the family lines as such as much as getting a pure bred off him for myself in the future! Probably explained it wrong, Im'e sorry! But as far as whippet/Saluki cross is concerned thats what I would like to do once he has had time to mature. I do like the idea of a small lurcher. But def getting one as a companion, probably a couple of years old. Might lead the Sal up the right path. Don't hav to explain mate its ur dog so ur choice. I've never saw a first x saluki wippet before but I imagine they will be ausome little lamping machines. Anyone seen them graft during the day? Probably be class in the small feilds. To a saluki, anything wich moves must be chased. Quote Link to post
whin 463
instead of experimentingput your saluk to a good greyhound thtas seen abit sport some of the ofspring will be good theyll all catch game and bitches wil be small enough for rabbs , whippets are wastage for an allrounder you need a half to threeqaurter grew to throw size and feet, bred a good line bred salukitype tomy nig grew bitch good pups smallest 24 largest i kept 27 and thye can all catch Quote Link to post
KenKeeping 13
I was talking to a guy today in Bridgend! And what he said made sence, (More than my spelling, lol) Even if a Sire and dam are good workers, how can anyone guarentee the pups are gonna work out as they have? Isnt it obvious that its you boys who know what your doing with a dog thats gonna give it the chance to come on right? I mean, if you dont put he time and effort into a pup, he aint gonna learn is he/she? If a kid was born to a 400m track star and his wife, who is a top class sprinter, it dont go to say that the kid is guarenteed to become a high class athlete does it? Or am I missing something? (Nieve or what, lol) Thats me all over. Quote Link to post
bradaz2009 9
You know what you are saying about the sal body with whip feet? Well aint it the same with Grey/Whip Brad? I know what your saying but whips are small they have feet to proportion that im not saying greys have good feet its just they are bigger and meant to carry more weight thats all im trying to say but with a whip grey it just gives you a better CHANCE because thats all it is look of the draw with pickin your pup. But your right about where and how the pups are brought up it doesn't matter if its bred out of the best of the best and some knob gets it who cant bring a dog on for shit the dog will most likely be shit Quote Link to post
