Swampy 147 Posted April 4, 2011 Report Share Posted April 4, 2011 Some months a go there was a thread/argument about whether a buzzard could lift a rabbit. I even posted a pic my son took showing it happening. However some very intelligent and knowledgable person told me it wasn't possible. I was there he wasn't so I guess he won that argument! Anyway, today on the way home I had to stop the car to avoid hiiting a Red kite that had just taken off from the road. It was carrying in one talon a partridge. The partridge was still flapping. The kite and partridge went over my roof with about a foot of air between us it was that close. Anyway it dropped the partridge right next to the car, within seconds another bird was on it attacking its head. I slowly fumbled around in my pocket for my phone and took this pic. It hopped off just as I raised the phone above the window. Now I know it not a kite so that argument will remain open for some, But I know what I saw and its still a cool pic. One of those events in life you'll remember with pleasure. Just thought I'd share it with you guys instead of ranting about politics, rugby (we won the RBS Malt!) and some ejit who thinks he knows everything but doesn't! Enjoy. I'm guessing you mean spaparrow hawk? 'Scuse ignorance. I did think of that when I was watching him for about 2 mins (could be less as time is hard t judge in that situation)he didn't have any tresses on but I agree the pic does look like it.Would explain his lack of fear of humans rgds Swampy On a learning ning Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Its a habit of calling them Spars for short... Cracking picture all the same! I shot a pigeon a few months ago which fell down a small pit at the bottom of the woods, by the time I got over there a Sparrowhawk was on it. just shows how many are about these days mullering everything within their size limits. I like Hawks but have to say I'm sick of the spars hammering the bird feeders in the garden. its a viciouse circle! we put the food out for the small birds in the winter and the Sparrowhawks use it as a restaurant . Jasp Ah! the circle of life. Wish I had got a pic of the kite. Bloody great thing with a span nearly the width of the road! Awsome when he was that close.
