zini 1,939 Posted April 4, 2011 Report Share Posted April 4, 2011 (edited) Hi lads, Over the past 2 days I have been busy restoring my r10 back to a wood stock with a nice rose wood coloured effect. Due to this fact I was ready for a shoot as the r10 had been sat in pieces over the weekend without any use. Well today I decided to have a walk around the permission that me and rossy08 gained last week for a quick hour after dinner. My mum had asked for some freshly shot bunnies for her friend who fancied making a bunny pie. On arrival at the permission I used rossys normal zero lane to ensure that I had a perfect zero on my first mildot down at 30 metres and after 1 or 2 clicks left I was putting pellet on pellet in the still conditions that today posed in the sheltered and narrow track that we use to zero in. Next I placed a target next to the back stop and walked back to a lased 50 metres as I wanted to check that I was bang on to the click for any hold over shots that may present themselves. Another click left at 50 metres and the RWS Super Fields were falling in a nice group on the target just a bit smaller than a 10p, job done. Next I walked the 5 minutes into the wild and over grown field that belonged to a farmer that we met last week. I saw 2 bunnies there sat out in the grass one with its head hidden behind some dead branches that had fallen out a tree and the other with its head and ears just poking about 1 inch above a grass sod. I decided to try the one at about 18 metres with its head and ears just showing. I placed a slight bit of hold under on the rabbit’s brain from the kneeling position and released the shot to miss. The pellet managed to clip an old dead bracken stalk on its way to the rabbit brain that was just in front of where the rabbit was sat that I didn’t originally see from my standing position. Next I decided to set up in a static position in the adjoining field as the grass was shorter due to the rabbits eating it. I laid down at 35 metres from a warren in a dip in the ground with the r10 on its bipod and waited. After about 10 minutes this male bunny popped out a hole in the warren and sat side ways on looking to my left. 2 mildots of hold over on the rabbits brain and the shot was released. The pellet impacted mm perfect and knocked the bunny over clinically. That was it for bunny shooting today as I intended only going out for a quick mooch and I decided to walk back to the car and skin and gut the bunny. Just before I got back to where I had zeroed I noticed a rook on the edge of the field pecking at the earth. I stopped and dropped the shot rabbit on the track and moved into the hedge row while I lased the rook. I got the Guntuff LRF out from around my neck and found the rook to be at 48 metres with its back facing towards me. I managed to find space to lay down at the bottom of the hedge and deploy the bipod without being seen before placing just over 4 mildots of holdover on the back of the rooks head. The shot was released and the pellet impacted yet again with clinical precision knocking the rook over with just 1 or 2 flaps of its wings before it died. Next I picked up my r10 and quarry and went back to the car and started to skin the rabbit only to find a nasty suprise in the form of a tape worm sack on the rabbits front leg. That bunny ended up getting chucked along with the rook for Charlie tonight (dam). Here are the photos. Si. Edited April 4, 2011 by zini Quote Link to post

Fair play on all the elbow grease you have put in to the stock as well, it cant have been easy getting all that spray coat off! falcongit 242 Posted April 4, 2011 Report Share Posted April 4, 2011 great shooting there bud,shame it had tape worm mate,me and stealthy went out today to set our sites up in the woods at 20 30 and 40 yards both guns wasent that far out anyway its that i banged mine when jumping a dyke in the week,so we had abit of time setting them up,we did have a walk around but did not see any bunnys out but it was abit cold and windy....but enjoyed walking about and haveing a chat....... symon Quote Link to post

Garry cheers buddy, thats nice to know pal and 1 day soon i would like to come up for a shoot with you and Darryl again. Bill cheers pal the r10 is shooting lovely and never ceases to stop impressing me with its accuracy and quaility. Pipa i used a paint stripper called nitromores and gave it 2 coats then washed the stock with warm soapy water and a finger nail brush and it came off easily without any problem. Si. Sorry if I've missed another thread on this somewhere. I have to be honest, I wasn't especially keen on it when you put the pictures up; you definitely have bigger balls than me to even think about doing such a thing to such a beautiful piece of wood!!
