fac air advice

Hi i am looking at a couple of airguns in fac, first is a Webley Spector in .22 with 2 extra air tubes, the next is a fx2000 in .177 running at 17ftp, and the last is a bsa s10 in .177.One is already fac the others would need to be put on fac, what are the pros and cons on each,advice would be most welcome. Hi there mate,,, i dont shoot FAC air, but to the best of my knowledge your would be better off buying a dedicated FAC rifle rather than having one tuned up to FAC, there is often more work to be done than you would first think and can lead to extra costs....

 

have a look at the Air Arms s410 extra and the likes....

I dont know for sure... but I wouldnt go for .177 FAC I have a feeling the light weight pellet may spiral or the likes at the higher velocities.

Sorry, but I disagree!

 

The 17 grain .17HMR round flies at 2000 plus FPS, far faster than an air rifle pellet, and is very stable. You would be looking at the heavier end of the pellet range, but .177 FAC rifles are very flat shooting.

 

The real question is why bother? Is it really worth all the hassle for an extra 5 ft.lb? I doubt there's anything you could do with 17 ft.lb that you couldn't with a standard power rifle. If you're going to the trouble of getting an FAC, then you might as well get a .22LR. It'll do everything the air rifle will, and much much more!

Fair point. Take no notice of what I said but still... get a heavier pellet just in case.

HW80 , Patriots were a good bit of kit too but much harsher on recoil than the HW80.

 

Im not 100% but I think Pianoman has a HW80 on ticket, just ask him if doesnt see your question.

 

EDIT, I know you mentioned PCP rifles, however Plus you might be better putting this post in the shotguns/rimfire section as those with FAC may also have air rifles too? As most the lads in the air gun section dont have FAC so wouldnt be able to comment accurately.

I have a airarms 410 on FAC, but its been regulated by Ben Taylor. I love the gun and it does come in handy in some situations when a rimmy isn't suitable. One thing I would say is try and get one thats regulated so all of the shots are the same power. Air arms dont come with a regulator from the factory and it will cost you the thick end of £200 to get a regulator fit. The hw100 comes with a biult in regulator but its a heavier gun and so do some other makes. Ben taylor will supply a few different makes tuned and regulated but you do pay for the privlidge. Mine is in .22 flavour and is running at 28lbs with aa field and a touch over 30lbs with bisley magnums.

I'm not sure this Gentleman would want an FAC tuned spring rifle but, such as it is, I do have a Weihrauch HW80 .22cal. Standard length rifle on my ticket. It's tuned with custom made parts and a Titan high performance spring. It developes 19ft/lbs and is precision accurate on H&N FTT .22 ammo

 

I shoot with it at normal air rifle ranges to get the pellet to the target vermin fast with less chance of wounding or a complete miss, should my rabbit suddenly bolt the second the shot fires. It's a magnificent rifle. The HW80 is the very best spring rifle that easily tunes to FAC level performance in my view.

 

If a PCP on FAC is what is wanted, I'd go for an Air Arms S400 EXTRA or S410 EXTRA FAC in .22. That said, The Air Arms .177 Field pellets are very accurate and perfectly stable at around 17ft/lbs of muzzle energy, no problem.

Ahhh, that clarifies it.

 

I'd still say that the extra gained from an FAC air isn't worth the hassle and extra cost, the modern PCP is extremely accurate.

 

If your heart is set on FAC air, then I would say go for a PCP that is FAC from the factory, or one that has been turned up by the factory or a very good gunsmith.

some thing to consider with FAC air (pcp)....is that shot count is drasticly reduced per charge.

 

so unless its a BSA s10 / r10 or one of the rapid range (large buddy bottles).....i personally , would stick to a standard sub 12ft/lb air rifle.

 

unless you are going in excess of 30 ft/lbs.........its not worth it (imo)
