Battery care over the summer months

Recommended Posts

As the tittle says what do yous do...?

I'm going to start running mine flat twice a week (obviously then fully charging it), Found it easy by taking the head off the lamp and leaving it on till its out that way the head/hood don't get to hot,

As sick of wasting battery's now, And this time iv brought a new one off flea-bay and want too get the best life out of it...

So.....

What do yous do, If anything?

Once a month or at most once every two weeks should be ok.Batterys have only so many times they can be recharged. So every time you recharge your battery ( flat or not ) you have used one life/charge cycle of your battery & not had any use or part use from that cycle.

If you really want to make it last , then buy an Optimate charger, which will keep it topped up all summer, charging as it needs

Dear!! but worth it really,, just ask the motorbike blokes!

assumin the lad has paid well for his lamp kit i would of thought the trickle on that would have a good chip in it.? only ever used a halfords charger but put on the bike cycle it works well to keep a smaller battery ok without it getting hot.

The optimate chargers are good, but it still does a battery good to discharge it now & again & recharge if standing for long periods of time.

Your spot on.Im a bike man & work with batterys as part of my job.I personally would not leave a battery on a trickle charger as seen many boiled dry.More so with the sealed batterys that you can't check & topup if ness.Cheaper & safer to just cycle the battery once a month.
