jigsaw 11,863
In the last few weeks ive treated the saluki bitch with THORNIT for ear mites and she responded well, but in the last day or two Ive noticed shes shaking her head again so it seems to have returned again.Im on the hot olive oil now with the Thornit and hopefully this will help.Talking to a houndsman he recomends an injection of BAYTRIL also.Has anyone had this problem and if so how do you stop it from returning. Its a bit of a nuisance .Ive cleaned out her ear canals as best I could with cotton buds and droped the powder in,then late in the evening I drop in the warm olive oil.Any other suggestions would be appreciated. foxfan 479
Ear mites are a bugger to get rid of in my experience, i tried everything including expensive drops from a vet they persisted until i tried some everyday ear drops from a pet shop, was the only thing that worked for me in the end. Sorry cant name the active ingredients for you. best of luck. ff. Quote Link to post

southcott 9
my daughters basset had bad ear mites , canural from the vet worked, but he did have very small ear canals, so you had to make sure it went right down. ive also used aurizon from the vets if it looks more then mites on my deerhound and that was wonderful stuff Edited April 1, 2011 by southcott Quote Link to post
Guest thebigdog
if you can get it, try a drop of poitin Quote Link to post
downsouth 7,202
Ivomec should clear them up.If you dont like useing ivomec Bayers who make drontal do a spot on called Advocate which shit hot but a bit pricey.Really cant see how Baytril will help unless the mites have caused an infection and even then id rather use a milder antibiotic. Dux 5
We always use 'Mineral Oil'. Enough to coat the ear canal when you massage it. Usually 10 days or so, but keep it up until you haven't seen mites for several days. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mineral_oil Quote Link to post
