They won't necessarily be brilliant workers but they'll probably have a go and they'll bolt a few rabbits. Even ferrets that have been kept as pets for years could bolt a few rabbits if they're fit enough. Nothing worse than a proper fat ferret though, but he's got a few months to get them in some sort of shape before next season so it should be ok. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
If they are last years young they will be good to go next season no problems, like the above guy said, just slim them down with a good rabbit diet and get em fit. Quote Link to post
Coneytrappr 30
What Rob and Ideation said, slim 'em down and they'll have a go. I've had 'pet' ferts given to me at an older age than that, grossly overweight, eating shit and told 'he's a real sweetheart n a real sook' etc. that have still shifted their fair share of rabbits. Jamie m 668
Just because they've ran through a few tubes doesn't meen they will work rabbits automatically , only one way to find out , a ferret comes to life in it's second season or goes to another level providing it's been worked the season before , Quote Link to post
The one 8,479
Give them a try in a small burrow and see how they go but theres ferrets and then theres Grafters Quote Link to post

target20111 0
i dont no lads just when you see them they look to big well thanks for info lads i just hope he gets them up and running when season comes round Quote Link to post
JoeD 24
Are you sure they are fat and not just big boned, as mine are quite big but they aren't fat, and just get them out in the new season to see if they are any good. If they are genuinely fat then cut there food down and up there exercise. be it more stimulation in there court/hutch or even leads and harnesses, if you can't let them lose in your gardem if you can then thats the best option in my eyes. If it was big boned it'd feel solid. You don't usually get big boned jills to be fair, at least I've never seen one. So they probably are overweight. Quote Link to post
shabadoodoo 16
My mate had a ferret 3yr old never worked and I took it out and it dun the job just it was unfit but after a few weeks it was fit as a fiddle Quote Link to post
charliehart 0
One good way to get ferrets keen before a trip is to feed them off unsuited rabbit(you dont need the guts) and they will then link the smell with food. They should work but in the end only one to truely find out. Quote Link to post
