Makes things a little clearer for me. I was always lead to believe it was illegal to hunt them with an air rifle. Never bothered to check that out really. I've shot scores of them for the pot, only be

How do you know he hasn't got an open ticket? You decided to wipe out someone's livelihood because he spoilt your leisure shooting? Well done. And folk wonder why they struggle to get permission.

I have a very strong sense of fair play by the rules. I respected his birds and the shooting syndicate he runs so, I kept off. But, he thinks he's above the law and rules the roost and can do whatever

Oh Simon,

That is just the way I would have handled it :boogie:

My old man once got a caning for something he didn't do buy the head of a school that I went to.

I had great delight in telling this head that if he gave me the cane, it would be more than his orchard that was cut down overnight :whistling:

So I got detention instead, which was I suppose fair after putting a classmate in hospital :D

I have a very strong sense of fair play by the rules. I respected his birds and the shooting syndicate he runs so, I kept off. But, he thinks he's above the law and rules the roost and can do whatever the hell he wants. Other air gun lads have had no end of run-ins with this bolshy little prick. He wrecked my shooting for me, I wiped out his shoot for him!

I once caught him poaching the deer from a high seat using a .243 rifle. That calibre is illegal anywhere on this shoot. The police firearms officers will not rate the land and issue licences for it because of the proximity of a main road and a nature reserve in the river valley where the public have right to walk. As if 12-bore shotgun and .22 and 17HMR rimfire aren't enough for the birds, foxes and rabbits there are.

Any time he want's to make a legal case against me, I have the shell cases against him!

I get no bother from him, he gets to keep his birds...and his job!

Salukiwhippet Let's just say there's more to this story than what I have revealed here. I've been shooting my permission for more years than he's had life. This guy is a short arsed bully and a little bloody thug, and I know for certain he has not got an open licence. The permission is the only shooting ground he covers and shoots over as it is so huge, but there are restrictions on the licence for it. if you had permission and access to shoot here, you would have had more than a run in with him for certain and the experience you'd have, would not see you posting your sneery twaddle in his defence. I will only add that a man mindful of his occupation in such circumstances should be careful how he conducts it!

I'm talking about the .243 rifle he was using on land where such a calibre is legally forbidden.

Oh dear. Is it boring being unemployed with nothing better to do at this hour of the day than to hide behind you computer screen and snipe safely away? I have nothing further to say to you little man.

By what law is it legally forbidden? Please do tell

I dunno about being unemployed, but it's a nice change from doing the paperwork for my pest control business and pheasant shoot to listen to silly men on the internet talking nonsense about firearms law.

keep on then young lad,you are only what you are. As I said to another idiot this week, why should I mind if a donkey kicks me!

You're quite wrong. FAC's (or more specifically the conditions for the individual rifles on them), come in three 'types' if you will - 'Closed', where the rifle can only be used on named land specified on the certificate or on ranges

- 'Semi-open', where the rifle can be used on any land where the holder has permission to shoot AND which is passed for that calibre.

- 'Open', where the rifle can be used on any land where the holder has permission to shoot. Therefore, the holder of that type of cetificate can use any of their rifles on any land they judge to be safe. All of my rifles have an open condition on them.

Here's what BASC have to say: My link

Wow, resorting to insults and veiled threats. What a fine advert for airgunners you are.

Thank you for the link James. Note the paragraph on your responsibility for ensuring that the cartridge you shoot is cleared by the authorities for the land you shoot. This is what I'm trying to point out. If you do not have an open certificate, and the keeper here does not, he's told me that himself! Then, you are liable to being prosecuted for using a cartridge thast exceeds the conditions of your licence.

I know from the firearms officers here, that the land is cleared for shotgun, .22 and 17HMR alright but .243 is not cleared for permitted use on it. Therefore, if you are caught using it here, you would be in the soup it would seem.

Alright, I guess I've been a bit of a prat for what I said. My apologies.

Thankyou for the apology.

Fully appreciate the point about being responsible for ensuring that the ground is 'passed' if you don't have an open ticket. The point I was trying to make though was that the land is never licenced, the person is. Therefore I (because I have an open certificate - which I only got because of my business) could shoot on the land in question with my .243 if I so chose, assuming I had permission of course. Certainly sounds like he was in breach of his certificate conditions.

Keeper does sound like a bit of a nob!

To be honest James he really is.

Apart from happily running his dogs over fields where he knows you or anyone with permission would be shooting, not the miles of it we have here, he once reported me to the Police for having unlicenced FAC air weapons. I knew nothing until I had a knock at the door one afternoon and two firearms police officers had arrived to arrest me on suspicion of possessing unlicenced firearms, inspect my collection and take it all away for checks. I have everything all legally certificated for my on-ticket air rifles but I had to submit to having those plus my sub 12ft/lb rifles surrendered for official checks to be made that nothing exceeded anything described on my FAC. They took the lot for forensic testing and I had to go to the station to formally report and identify myself. I can tell you, that was no joke, waiting to see if a pellet from the police tests would hold my legal-limit rifles up as being capable of achieving illegal power limits. The officer told me that it would be easy for me to sell-on an unlicenced air weapon that was higher powered, or have it stolen from an unsecured room as among their concerns. And a spell inside was made clearly known to me if I was found to be in possession of an unlicenced firearm.

They came back fully cleared about three weeks later with no further trouble. But it was the longest, sleepless three weeks of worry I ever knew. So, rightly or wrongly I took it out on his gamebirds. No fairytale mate, I really flattened the lot! Just set up within range of the feed bins or wherever I could find them. I even saw him once or twice with a smug look on his face, saying "I see you got off then!" He knew I probably would, but he did it anyway.

Down came the red mist.

That was about 8 years ago. I wouldn't dream of doing it now, really but, after what this guy had put me and my family through. I was not going to let him off lightly.

He's still a nob with other lads that come on. He really lays it on, accusing them of all sorts of shit with his birds but, he leaves me in peace.

Thanks James.

Simon.

That guy sounds like a 'proper' dick head. However, by killing all the birds, it's not just him that suffers. If he is/was a keeper, then he has people he answers to, who you presumably could have contacted etc. I'm sure that there is more to the story as you have said, but by doing what you did, you probably ruined many peoples sport for the year just like he was ruining yours.

You say he had an obvious beef with the air gun lads. Any chance anyone had been knocking over his birds with airguns then?

Imagine you, and a bunch of lads on here, all got together and rented some land with plenty of quarry, looked after it and ensured you had some good shooting. Then one of those other lads pissed someone off, and that someone made it their mission to wreck your permission and rape it of every bit of game, until it was stone dead quarry wise. You'd be pretty gutted right?

And the end of the day it's in the past, but i don't think it is something i would brag about, makes you sound like a petty, hateful man , which from reading your other posts it is quite obvious that you are not!
