zini 1,939
Hi lads, I met up with Andy (rossy08) today at his flat at 1730hrs today to have a mooch around his permission and hopefully bag a bunny or two. After a 30 minute drive we arrived at his permission and quickly laid down on the ground to check our zero off our bipods. After a click here and there we were both sorted and hitting the bulls eyes at 30 metres easily. I was on 1 mildot hold over on x14 mag to give me my normal 25 metre zero. While we were doing this though 2 bunnies popped out at a lased 64 metres to watch us zero. I was going to have a crack at one of them as there was no or little wind and I was feeling confident after shooting at 63 metres last week with Simon and Andy that from the bipod it would be easily taken by the r10. Sadly though for me before I could get the rifle into position they both ran off further down the track out of air rifle range. Anyway Andy was using his .177 AAS400 Superlite in hunter green. After our zero check and adjust Andy showed me his permission and its boundaries before he went to one corner or a large field with a hedge row down one side full of rabbit holes and I headed back to where I had seen them 2 bunnies earlier. Once back to where we had seen them 2 bunnies I found a nice static location just under a bush looking down the track covering 2 warrens to my front on the left and right of the track. Nothing showed for the first hour but as soon as it started to get dark and the rain started to fall a single bunny popped out the left warren and sat sideways on on the track. In the dim evening light I slowly took the Guntuff LFR from around my neck and lased the bunny at 54 metres. 3 mildots of hold over on x6 mag on my SR12 scope ret and the rifle was set off the bipod ready to shoot the bunny. I took up the first stage, second stage and then released the shot to watch the customary flip of the rabbit just a split second after the r10 and Twink mark 2 silencer had barked out a .22 calibre RWS Super Field. The rabbit landed on its side stone dead. On inspection of the rabbit I found the shot to be next to the rabbits eye so just about 8 mm from the perfect position but fine for 54 metres and still within a kill zone. That was it for the evening as it was raining really heavily now and I had forgotten my lamp at my mums, so rather us get super drenched and only have 1 lamp to lamp with we decided to call it a day and head home. Sadly for Andy no bunnies showed thereselfs on his part of the field but I’m sure next time some will and Andy will bag himself a bunny or two. Thanks to Andy for a great few hours and the invite to his very nice permission. ATB Si. Edited March 30, 2011 by zini Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
Great to read this Si and see the pics. Hey have you been spray-camouflaging your R10 bwana? Looks a different rifle ! But a 54 metre rabbit is classic form. Well shot mate . Blimey Andy you are a much younger fellow than I thought. You write with real knowledge and authority whenever we've had discussions on rifles, shooting or what-have-you. I feel quite proud and happy that the sport is in such good and certain hands for after older shooters like me are dead and gone. All power to you lad! I thinks it's proving a great thing to get out to meet the other guys and report on a shoot at their permissions and show pics like this. It brings the section closer together than just a bunch of avatars! So you got the rain then! I was out tonight with Andy here and we had a really nice warm day. Just a spit of light drizle for a moment at the last hour before dusk but, it held off. I got three rabbits; a decent 45 of my paces through the head! Well pleased with that, but two closer range bolters into the thorn thickets again. Carefully aimed on their heads but, they turn with amazing speed and it turns into a body shot! Yet they still get away. Baffles me that, when you see how fast and very hard a .22 round from under 12ft/lbs of energy can whack something 50 metres away. Hate it to Hell when it happens. There seems to be generally fewer rabbit numbers around the permissions this season than previous years Andy but, that's how it goes sometimes pal. You'll be bagging a dozen or more before long. You'll see! All the very best to you mate and a special thanks to you too Si for getting out and about among the shooting like this! Simon Quote Link to post
