The whole feeding pork to animals thing is a huge myth. Pork is no more salty than beef or any other meat. Ham, bacon etc obviously are far more salty but thats because salt is added to them. I don't go out of my way to feed pork to animals but if it happened to be the cheapest the butchers had at the time then that's what they would get.

 

I suppose I'm going to get threatened as well now for giving the correct information :feck:

Pork is difficult to digest, apparently its hard to digest for humans, Ive heard that dogs shouldnt have pork.

Igive my dog pork and have sometimes given my ferrets a little bit of pork cut into small bits so its easy to digest. Had no problems meself.

Muslims cant have pork, they turn into gremlins and explode.

I think the pork = bad thing in religion, comes from religions based in warm countries, where pork would have gone bad very quick, pre refrigeration, what started as a bit of culinary advice, 'steer clear of the pork', became with time, some kind of religious dogma, as is the way of such things and became 'stay away from the pork or else!'.

Been feeding my 5 on pig heart for over 18 months with no problems,rabbits their staple in the winter but the warmer months i'll keep them on a bit of dry food & give them pig/ox heart overnight & remove the leftovers in the morning.

i cant understand why someone gives an opinion and then someone just has to flame. everyone is always learning and always will be. anyways burney2011 chill out ur not gonna get very far on these forums being a d**k. back to subject, ive never found any problems feeding a ferret pork. as people have said its just the same as any other meat in alot of aspects. and just rumours. if you havnt had problems feeding your ferrets pork and they seem healthy enough then carry on. i personally dont feed mine pork but each to their own.

Pork...goes bad quick and used to be well known for carrying the pork tapeworm which can be caught by eating it undercooked. And was likely quite common when hygiene wasn't as good. I would say that that more than anything contributed to the 'no pork' line of thinking. And of course bacon and such is very salty.

 

I feed pork on occasion but it is ground and frozen.

i amamazed that no one has metioned "trichine" (a wire worm carried by mice and often found in omivorous mammals that eat them, pigs,badger etc) its a wire worm of only a mm or so which causes a cist on the liver and can be fatal.

 

"aujetztky" (probably spelled wrongly) disease carried by pigs causes blindness in dogs and humans too but is cery rare (allthough still tested or inslaughterhouses on the continent).

 

ido not feed raw pork to any of my animals (i am not a muslim cleric or anything LMAO!!!).
