Gate netting hares is pretty straight forward once you know the run of the hares and the gate passes that they use. When you have sussed out which gates they use set your nets each side of the gap,in doing this if he knocks the first one he will get caught in the second, also if two went through there's a good chance of geting both.Set your nets leaving plenty of baggage for them to wrap up in.I always found early morn to be best, but you can get them anytime, and if you have a well trained dog to send out to beat them in your laughing,no problem on your own.

IMO i wouldn't go out unless i had somebody else with me to help take the hare out of the net. You can get them out yourself but it will be hard work if you get a contrary one and they could hurt themselves kicking about. I just think it's handy to have somebody to hold the ears while i take it off the toes and body. But like I say it's just my opinion.

Mossy he never mentioned taken them alive,i understood they were for the pot.I know its tricky getting them out when there alive and the b*****ds can bite hard.Often had one kill itself from jumping about and hiting the peer or a stone on the ground.Know a man who was in the horrors from drink and on the same morn caught a hare while netting.Well the keep bag was a few yards away so in all the confusion with the hangover he left down the hare to fetch the bag and away with the hare down the field,so funny he could have got 20pound for it live and cured his hangover, but ended up with nowt only a sore head.

I must have misunderstood lad sorry. Oh i've got the scratches and scars to prob the fuckers can bite laugh.gif. When i was only about 4 we were out netting one morning and this great big fat f****r showed up wanted to lend a hand, he was a right know it all and you would have thought he had invented the netting of hares. When we were all set up the beaters started to move and all of a sudden two hares rose at the same time, when the 1st one hit the net the other one veered of to a small gap the a few feet further up the ditch, when we got the 1st one out we realised we had to bag to put it in while we worked on the second one so the fat know it all decided he'd put the hare up his jumper. I've never heard a grown man yelp and scream so much in my life, was just one of those days you'll always remember laugh.gif
