you could try an electrical wholesalers. storage heaters are filled with fire bricks but they are shaped so dont know if they would suit your purpose. if you know any electricians or companies you could ask them if they have removed any old storage heaters.they will be only too glad to let you take them .

Hi Ian,

Its pretty simple to be honest mate, you want a thickish walled flowerpot about a foot high, with a drainage hole in the bottom, got mine from B&Q.

Find a steel drum a bit bigger than the flowerpot and encase the flowerpot inside the drum in a strong sand/cement mix, dont forget to cut a hole in the bottom of the steel drum and line it up with the drainage hole in the bottom of the flowerpot.

When the cement is dried hard sit the drum on a few bricks so you can fit the end of the air hose underneath,i made the end fitting from 22mm copper pipe with a bend in it,i use bbq bricketts for fuel and its a great little diy furnace.

I wanted something to last a bit so i bought one of those small galvanised burning bins for my drum and i had the airbed inflator anyway, just get your fire going well and then turn the air source on and bingo,do yourself a favour though and buy a full face visor and good gloves, cant be to careful with that kind of heat.

Ill post pics tommorrow if you like.

a good "old fashioned" builders merchants usually stock them

or a fireplace/stove shop.

they come in 3 sizes 1" , 2" and 3 " ( thickness) the other dimesions are standard brick size.

i have some here if tou are struggling......let me know

cheers

Here you go Ian,

My air source, very simple to make.

The flowerpot set in the drum, bloody thing weighs a ton.

The round steel plate fits on a lip at the bottom of the flowerpot,it creates an "air chamber" and the air then distributes evenly through the fire above it,im sure this makes a difference.

Hope that helps mate.
