shepp 2,285
I have decided to buy myself an HW95K and I can't decide on the caliber. One option that occured to me is that if I go the new route then I have the choice a .20 caliber rifle, which can be imported in a couple of weeks. I wondered does or has anybody owned one and if so what's your opinion, is it worth a consideration? Cheers Andy Quote Link to post

rossi_j 99
It does sound like the best of both worlds and that is a lovely rifle your getting yourself there mate Apparently there isnt a massive choice of pellets though and finding that special pellet can be tricky but its probably worth the extra work finding one in my opinion .atb. .ste. Big bald beautiful 1,231
My brother in law has a bandit(tuned hw95 in .20), very nice guns and he gives the target lads a run or there money, sadly he doesnt hunt Quote Link to post
Ken Moran 0
I have thought of this too, go to the local gunshop and see how many .20 pellets are on the shelf, how many .177's and .22's. That might decide the matter for you. Consider buying a spare barrel, one in .177 one in .22 like the dual calibre Beemans? Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
I've been useing a .20 barrel on my HW90 for the past three years and I'm more than very happy with it It's true that most shops carry a very limited choice of ammo but there's as much as anyone could wish for on-line. It's a very useful caliber IMO. Cheers. Quote Link to post
clubshot 22
.20 was orignally a USA Calibre But as .177 Pellet Range has increased And different manufactures made .20 Gun's and Barrels It seems like .177 & .22 they need different Head Sizes There is not the numbers in use to warrent the cost of offering Different .20 Pellets Where a Heavier .177 will do the same job BOB/R Quote Link to post

I'd also recomend you try Baracudas, they work best through my 90 Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 792
my r10 in .20 loved h+n ftt's mate, and they were quite a nice compromise weight between .177 and .22, quite flat flying and reasonably heavy hitting. my .20 rapid liked logun penetrators but these weigh around the same as most .22 pellets, and arent available any more... good luck with your choice mate, let us know how you get on cheers, wurz Quote Link to post

shepp 2,285
where dod you order your 20 from bud im interested in getting one As far as I know you can get them from any Weihrauch dealer, they just take 4 weeks to import. If you pay a little more you can get a fully tuned version, I will put up the details tomorrow mate. Quote Link to post
shepp 2,285
I have been doing a bit of research into which dome headed pellets are available in .20 I though it may come in useful to anybody else considering the caliber due to it being the one major draw back. H&N Diabolo Baracuda 13.3 grains Field Target Trophy 11.42 grains JSB Exact 13.5 grains Bisley Pest Control 12.8 grains Super Field 10.8 grains Daystate 13.73 grains Crosman Premier 14.3 grains Logun Penetrator 20.5 grains Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
.20 was orignally a USA Calibre But as .177 Pellet Range has increased And different manufactures made .20 Gun's and Barrels It seems like .177 & .22 they need different Head Sizes There is not the numbers in use to warrent the cost of offering Different .20 Pellets Where a Heavier .177 will do the same job BOB/R With respect to your observation of a heavier weight .177 pellet doing the same job as a .20 round in a .177 rifle Bob, that is not strictly true. I have tried this exhaustively myself some years ago for my .177 Air Arms TX200HC and it's an expensive waste of time and money. Shepp is buying a Weihrauch HW95K which, as you will know, is a spring rifle. Heavyweight ammo like .177 Bisley Magnum for example, is a poor performer in a .177 HW or Air Arms spring rifle Barrel. Usually these give a very good return in a .177 PCP I'll grant you, but not a spring rifle generally. A .177 cal. Weihrauch HW95 will only shoot at it's optimum power and accuracy performance with a .177 pellet of around 8.44 to about the 8.64 grain mark. I wouldn't like to bet on better performance with a pellet much heavier than this. Of course there are always exceptions to every rule and there may well be a heavyweight pellet out there that performs like a dream. But, finding it for this particular spring rifle is probably, perhaps an equal or even harder task than finding a great .20 pellet for a .20cal spring rifle. All the best . Simon Edit to add. I only used Bisley Magnum as an example. Edited March 31, 2011 by pianoman Quote Link to post
