Was not supposed to be one hen with 4 cocks but every bleedin hen i bought turned into a cock Would a budgie type cage be ok to keep a pair in, and would it be ok in the house or should i hang it in the aviary....do i put a nest pan in it or something on the floor of the cage? Moll. 1,770 Posted March 26, 2011 Author Report Share Posted March 26, 2011 I've chosen a cock based purely on his size, he is the one nearest in size to her (rest are bigger) If she had already decided who she was paired with herself i do not have the foggiest? Sorted this cage out for them.... Does everything look ok? Picked moss from the walls, put it in the bottom of the cage with some dried grass, got small fluffy hen feathers, shredded loo paper and coconut hair type stuff in the nest pan. fireman 10,871 Posted March 26, 2011 Report Share Posted March 26, 2011 Good variety of nesting stuff Moll,just make sure she has plenty to mess about with as some bits she'll reject.I also give my birds the dog hair after i've brushed our the dogs as they seem to like the wolfhounds hair more than the soft nesting stuff i have bought,you can't have to much nesting avalable but not enough can cause problems and stress for the birds.That cage will sort of do but it'll get crowded if she has a good brood hatch off and i'd try to get a bigger one before she nests down proper myself,best of luck with them though .
