What skill is required on a pheasant shoot then? I'll bet you a total beginner will be shooting birds by the end of 1 day. If thats what you call skill, well................ :whistling:

What skill is required to take a lead off a dog? I'll bet you a total beginner will be catching rabbits end of day 1. If thats what you call skill, well

You need to learn how to get close to a wild animal, you need to learn how to train a dog, I know it looks easy but it ain't. We aren't hunting hand raised game you know..... we can't put the dog in a cupboard cos its raining......

....you are finally getting my point too ! Shooting is more than getting a shotgun and pulling a trigger. Most syndicates have to put a lot of hard work into raising game on a shoot and shooting high pheasants is not as easy as some people make it look. Wildfowlers are out shooting in all weathers. Deer stalking involves a lot of good fieldcraft as does foxing. No doubt guys with dogs have to consider dietary requirements etc to achieve best performance....well shooters have to consider internal/external/terminal ballistics.;)

Raising game lol, raising hand fed tame birds to shoot is never hunting mate no matter how hard these birds are to shoot at a height. It's like a fisherman going to fish farms and bragging he caught 3, two and a half lb trout....big f*****g deal. I appreciate there are folk who stalk but thats a totally different type of hunter from your average beer gutted, fat arsed shooter

are you thinking of someone, or just covering the lot.

 I think he is looking in the now lol

At the beginning of time man used his hands to hunt throwing rocks, this had limited success................ He then made spears which helped tremendously........from this idea he created the bow and arrow, a superb weapon which had great success. He befriended the horse and this also helped him cover more ground...........he then befriended the dog and this is where his hunting abilities took off.........with man and dog hunting together, they never went hungry.....he honed the dog over the centuries to become the ultimate hunting machine.....some men couldn't tame dogs and still used primitive methods.....this continued till the invetion of the gun.....for the first time the hunter didn't need to move around as much and stealth wasn't as big an issue....2 camps evolved, the hunter and the shooter.....the hunter used his ability and guile to catch his prey, enjoying the chase as much as the catch, for him it is all about being one with nature, taking his prey as natural as possible.....the shooter on the other hand, created a gun which helped to hide his lack of accuracy, he got fed up trying to hunt wild animals and produced his own creature to hunt......he bred the most stupidest bird mother nature has ever seen and employed people to scare the birds towards him so he didn't have to move......so here we have arrived at man today, the hunter and the shooter :tongue2:
