Other than the Crosman you were interested in, have a look at the Benjamin Nitro, these are tasty little gas ram rifles, full powered in .22, here have a look at my link, it is in your price range...

Benjamin

BSA Lightings are well though of too, but the main thing is for you to go in and see what seems right to you! Rifle choice is a personal thing and a good shop should be able to help you choose wisely! Their prices on Stingrays does seem high and remember this is a different name version of the Hatsan 55 or 60!

Stupid question Oli, but has Marsh tackle got anything in air rifles? He is closing down, you might be able to pick up a right good bargain there, weihrauch, air arms, all good names, what did he deal in?

Edited, go to Beesleys, Little Chalfont, Amersham, closer, has several good makes they list as dealing in, BSA, Webley, Diana, Weihrach, Air Arms, Theoben, Falcon and others to quote, They should have some good secondhand deals and new deals as well. Look there, forget the other one, save petrol and travel time, they are 8 miles away, buy local if you can!

They still have the .22 Crosman, but they are far away from you, check out Beesleys on the way there, their stock range is much better, speak to them tomorrow, explain what you have to spend, what you want and see what they can come up with, Simon (Pianoman) will back me on this, they have several makes listed that make damned good rifles, they will have secondhand gear which means for your money you get really top end kit! Trust me! Check out Beesleys on the way there, be really nice to your dad, he can drive that way to Milton Keynes!

Well Oli, Beesleys are close enough to you for you to check out on Saturday, they have some nice makes in there, you should be able to talk a deal, remember you have the cash, they have the goods they want to sell! Think they are worth checking out tomorrow? Give them a phone call, see what they have in your price range, then come on here and ask again!

Oli, on this site you will get loads of advice, we do not want you to waste your money on something that is not suitable (ie Westlake B2, DB4 etc), check out Pianomans thread on how to shoot properly...

Here it is, this will help you a lot!

OK Oli, just did some research on the web, here is what the Americans think about the Crosman Phantom!

Crosman Review

The basic points are it weighs a ton and is a pain to reload!

There are some much better rifles at Beesleys, I would ring them up and have a word with them to see what you can afford on your budget. Simon will faint but soemthing like a secondhand HW springer should be in your price range and will be more usable to you! Trust me!

Oli, spoke to Beesleys at Little Chalfont, they do the Crosman Phantom, cheaper than Donaldsons! They also have in some very good outfits that are secondhand, such as a Webley Vulcan! Go there, save CO2, save petrol, save time, go and see them, ok you may not get a McD or BK as lunch, but this means your gun supplier will be closer than ever! They are like 8 miles away from the town on your profile, give them a ring, you will save money!

Hi Boroboyoli.

If I were in your boots young fella I would forget the Crossman and go for a Weihrauch HW95 or HW90 Gas Ram, HW98 with adjustable stock, or HW80K, HW97K or, my personal favourite, the HW77. I don't know how tall you are or your build-characteristics so, I cannot determine which of these rifles will suit you the best. All I can honestly tell you is that these six Weihrauch rifles are stunningly accurate as any PCP rifle, they will enable you to develope your shooting better as you grow, and they will last you all your lifetime, if you look after them. If your budget stretches to brand new, so much the better. If it's second hand money then, fear not, there are plenty for sale and the quality of these rifles means the likelyhood of buying a duffer is very remote. The barrels and actions are razor accurate and easy to repair. The Rekord trigger is the best of any you will find and the quality of their build and construction is wonderfully tough and durable while refined and purposeful.

A number of certain people will tell you these Weihrauch rifles are too heavy and they weigh a ton Blah Blah blah....BOLLOCKS!

These are lazy, noodle-limbed nancies who sit on their pimply arses, wearing out armchairs from playing ""Call Of Duty"" computer war games with cyber replicas of real weapons which, if what they say, is to be taken seriously, they would not be able to lift into any kind of accurate aim and fire in real life and thus they will be overrun by the enemy and killed without a shot fired back!:haha:

These German rifles are real rifles and real rifles are not for flyweight wimps and nancies. They weigh on average around 7 to 10 pounds because they are full of good stuff to get your preferred ammo onto the head of whatever you are aiming at.

Zini has just posted a vid of me and my mates AndyFR1968 and Zini himself shooting a penny at fifty metres.

I did it with my Weihrauch HW77 underlever .22 calibre rifle and a bit of skill learned over more years than I care to count. And I did it several times plus a shot on an empty pellet tin at 63 metres with this rifle. It was fitted with a Hawke 6-18x44 Adjustable Objective scope with an SR12 reticle and the mag was set on 15.

I'm not going to promise you will be able to do the same. Shooting is a skill aquired only as a lifetime's consuming art and experience. A pcp rifle will teach you nothing of how a rifle is managed in the hold to accomplish precision accuracy other than point and squirt! :diablo:

But starting out with a beautifully built, superbly accurate, hunting spring air rifle as these Weihrauch rifles are, is a pretty damm good way to get started. And if you decide to go to PCP in the future, at least you will do so from very sound principles your spring rifle will have taught you.

All the very best for your shooting Oli.

Simon
