pianoman 3,587
I know .177 is more often used for targets but would .22 be worth a try for something different to my .177 HW100? Yes! .22 is a beautiful round for hunting Shepp, and it's just as every bit accurate as .177. It's always a raging argument; ".177 is more accurate. .22 hits harder, pcp's are more accurate than spring rifles...!" And so it goes on, forever and a day. You just need to know how a calibre type like .22 behaves in its own trajectory characteristics from a sub-12ft/lb rifle. To find that, just set up a series of equally measured targets from 10 metres out to 50, 60 or as far as you are comfortable as a max range. Zero your rifle at 25 metres on the crosshair and then, shoot a 10-shot string at each target, at each range and carefully note exactly where the pellets group below or above the aiming mark. You'll have an accurate "Trajectory Map" of your rifle and pellets performance, showing you exactly how much hold-over or hold-under you need and observe it on the corresponding mildot of your scope, if you use a dot reticle. And always push your limits with what you are capable of. Successful hunting at all range distances is just a culmination of an awful lot of practiced accuracy All the best for your purchase shepp Simon Quote Link to post
