Ossie 11
my beloved old motor is coming off the road on thursday, her mot runs out, and i'm getting a van, as she is no longer practical for me. Escort 1.4 Ghia, G-reg, white, electric windows, sunroof, central locking, manual choke. all original interior, still has the factory-fitted pre-amp for the cassette player. taxed til end of march. not gonna bullsh*t ya, she does have a few little quirks, but nothing that affects her driveability (other than what she needs for the mot). sunroof doesn't open properly (it lifts up, but doesn't go back), and the central locking requires a flick of the driver's side door handle to lock (works fine from the passenger side. it's what happens when the car is well-used by 1 person!). missing one hubcap. cassette player no longer plays tapes, but the radio works just fine. and most people would rip it out & stick in a CD player anyway. damage to nearside of front & rear bumpers, has been taped up & is good for the mot (my uncle did the taping, and he's the mechanic who mot's her). she needs welding to get through the mot, nearside suspension point, and battery mounting are "severely corroded" according to the mot failure report. not a big job, but not financially viable for me. had the clutch & brake pads replaced last july, new sill & welding for the last mot. she has a bit of decoration on the bonnet & a few stickers on the back, nothing a coat of paint and a quick scrape won't sort out. or if you're into Pearl Jam, no need! engine is sound as a pound. i've run her for a year and a half with no problems other than those listed above. starts first time, every time. has never let me down, even on freezing cold mornngs. will go through hell and high water! she's not been thrashed, i usually drive like a pensioner anyway, so my brother reckons... ideal first/second car (she's my third, i like Escorts!), good project for father & mechanically-minded offspring. cheap to tax (£120 a year), cheap insurance (i'm 23, been driving for less than 3 years, costs me £700 a year fully comp through CIS. which is cheap for a young driver). very good on fuel consumption, i did thetford to leeds to warwickshire to reading & home again, and loads of trundling about in between, on just over a tankfull (over 600 miles). reluctant sale, but, what the hell else am i going to do with her? got nowhere to store her for future use. £100, or near-ish offer. the work should cost around the £100 mark, £200-ish for a year's motoring? can't be bad! located south norfolk. pm if you're interested.
