HELP NEEDED PLEASE!

so i am looking into getting ferrets and i have decided i want gills for working i understand that ferrets come into season so i am wondering what the best combination:

 

2 gills both spayed - but when do i have to spay them?

2 gills not spayed + 1 vasectomised hob?

 

also what the max age they should be bout? and at what age can they be worked?

The latter. I'd get kits this summer. Can work them from 8 months ish, some do it earlier, some later, depends on the kit etc.

If your getting your hob snipped you wont need your jills spayed its a much bigger operation for the jills and if they turn out good workers you can never breed replacements later on from your own ferrets

 

Id also go for kits them any problems are your own making and its up to you to get it right and fix them

 

The only problem i see is if you get three kits the vets like the hobs testes to have dropped before they snip him so your going to have to get organized to get him done and ready for the jills as theres about a three month wait till you can use him to see if the operation worked

I am going to get 2 jill as a guy down my road has a vasectomised hob and use him to get my jills out of season is this ok?, also i have found 2 jills for sale which are last years young which are bout 9months old and parents are good workers is this a good age to buy??

I would proberbly wait on mate, kits will on the sceen very shortly, giving you lots to pick from, as a good working ferret is like rocking horse sh*t to buy, most people get rid of the crap/little worked ferrets and keep the excellent workers.

Aye im the same id always go for kits then any problems are of your making .i always think the worst when adult ferrets are offered , maybe the guys wanting shot of so he doesn't need to feed them all summer ??. but who knows and unless you can get him to take you out and try them for a few hours you cant tell what they work like .And theres nothing going to put a newbie off faster than ferret that skittish at burrows

This years kits are your best bet and don't let someone palm you off with kits that are two young. My kits go at 10-11 weeks of age. I like to make sure they are well handled, healthy and eating good.
