Sorry to here about your dog mate. One of mine tore his leg in october i took it to the vets straight away, they butchered him, the wound got infected because they tried to staple it. I then had to take him back a few weeks later to remove the staples and have stiches instead, he's now got a nasty scar and left my wallet alot lighter. I think some vets are out to rob you. His leg should have been stiched straight away, would have saved money and the healing time. Quote Link to post

Guest MOLLY
If you think its bad enough to need stitching, take her straight away. Otherwise it will mean a GA because they will have to knock her out to cut away the dead skin to be able to stitch it. If you keep it very clean and dry, make sure you watch for swelling, discharge, then it will probably heal on its own but it will take longer than if it was stitched. My lad did this today... MOLL. Guest dig deep
i dont think youve got nowt to worry about mate, just keep it clean and it will scab over in a few days, however if you want to take her to the vets do it tommorow morning(monday) because if you take it today you will get charged for using the emergency vet and about£100 just for her to stay there overnight as they wont do anything until the morning Quote Link to post
MATTI 34
That look's like it will heal nicely on it's own, just keep an eye on it, cover it with antiseptic cream when exercising her to stop muck and shite getting in, clean off with salt water the rest she will do herself. All the best. MATTI Quote Link to post

However don't put iodine on it. Dog will lick it of & it can be very toxic to dogs if ingested. All the best Eggy Edited February 8, 2007 by Eggy Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
As long as she can keep it clean herself it, as everyone else has said, will be fine. All my dogs do this from time to time, usually on fallen branches as we run a lot of stuff through cover. Should take a couple of weeks by which time it will be down to the size of a five pence piece. Just make sure it stays clean and open: the skin will grow in from the outer edges until it joins in the middle: job sorted. I wouldn't take myself to A&E for something like that, and I wouldn't take my dogs to the vets either! It shouldn't really bother her when running either. Quote Link to post
