runforyourlife 361
Had some half descent pike out of the derwent over the years, as well as big perch. If your going with spinners make sure you have the right gear mate as river pike hit hard, especially in the summer months.. You'd be best off going light so you can keep on the move. Take a float rod and a few chubbers of stick floats. Have a wonder about, fish in spots that look like they would hold a fish or two. Maybe get a nice straight with the odd change in depth. Feed and trot. Have a good day mate. Quote Link to post

Are you sure they werent repeats? yes pal out of the same weir and different weights as 2 were landed on the same day, its been acouple of year since i last fished there and i think ? one was early 20 and the other mid 20, all fish landed out of there were all very good doubles, i use to lend a boat of a kid who lived on a old barge to which i could get in some decent places under over hanging willows, i do know its changed abit there and the old derelict house in middle of weir has been done up so i dont know what its like there any more but i use to fish there every year and the pike were always there and plenty of them at the bottom of weir, i do have a good day i had there on an old tape some where, atb Quote Link to post

Sorry i thought you meant more than 2(not saying that it wouldnt hold more than 2, (probarbly a few more at least). Rivers as a rule(rules do get broken, lol) generally have there pecking orders and size strains in featured pegs. And each area usually can only sustain a certain amount of big fish(like most waters). There is a weir on the river ouze, were for the last 10yrs we have been catching the same 20's and indeed doubles. Aventually new fish will move in as the residents die. You will get mooching fish but it isnt very often. I do fish on a salmon river, which holds a ridiculous amount of big fish in a very small area! And i do mean stupid really, 4 different 30's one which touchs 40 when in spawn, and the others are growing fast. Due to high protien food. The amount of 20's in the area is quite bizarre as well as the upper doubles. This place really is a one off..Sorry for waffling on, lol. Atb Russ. Quote Link to post
