There is a lot of people going on about small ferrets well i.ve got three one hob and two jills all polecats type the hob is about 12 int long and the gills are 8 to 9 int long now is that what you call small being that long

Small for me mate cant be doing with ferts disturbing nets!

Saying that most do because of the bloody collars / locators.

 

Disadavantage with the MK3M collar over the MK3 is the bulk of ithe MK3M the MK3 was quite 'sleek'

I genuinely dont think the size of the ferret makes that much difference to the nets, its more of a nack that the ferret either has or hasnt imo. Some seem to go half way though then back and forth fecking the net up regardless of the size of the fert. I like a nice chunky strong mid sized hob that can kill a rabbit quick and not get dragged about.

I've seen some good sized hobs manage to squeze through nets anyhow a good ferret shouldn't surface that much anyway if there's rabbits in there , a ferret poping in an out all the time usually isn't doing the bis .

I agree to a point but it does largely depend on the make up of the warren. If its a large deep expansive warren then a good ferret shouldnt surface that regulally but with small hedgerows or roux's etc there is often alot more holes to rabbit ratio and the ferrets can bob up and down going in and out just looking for different paths through.

I.ve had a look in one of my ferret books it said the size varies with the sex to sart with, and the average weight must be taken when the animal is reasonably well-fed. A fit (not fat) hob ferret averages around 2 1%2 - 3lb, with the jill averaging 1 - 1%2lb. The overall lenght is something in the order of 20in for the hob and 12 - 15in for the gill

Ferrets shouldnt really be disturbing the nets, if there is a rabbit down there they shouldnt be at the nets, if they are at the nets, it should be behind a rabbit. I would consider my ferrets 'not small' and the jills weigh between 700-900 gms and the hobs weigh about 1500gms. They certainly ain't micro ferrets. (2.2 lb - 1 kilo).
