It will work well but not as good as the laser, it depends on how far you wish to view and shoot.

its only on a small farm but im looking at all options, im thinking of making ir filters for the above lamps, the sheets you can get of ebay, like ive said, im looking at all options.

I used to use an IR filter on a blitz with a sony camcorder and the beam does go a long way. If you are looking for the best cheapest option make a filter for the blitz. If money isn't an issue get the laser it's easy to mount it to the tripod mount on the camera and then you only need one hand to operate it.

how would you fit the laser to the tripod mount? any pics?

I haven't got any pictures because I didn't own a laser when using the camcorder. You would need to get some weaver rail:-Ebay Item number: 390296670857 (cheers pest control copied off other thread!) You then bolt that to the tripod mount on the camera and the laser would slide on to the rail. Once you set the aim point of the laser everytime you take it off and put it back on it will be centralised ready to go from the initial set up.
