buiding a chicken house

Ive started one today only cos I had some spare timber over , dont know what im doing though regards roosting bars and nest boxes ,cos its only small I was thinking of getting some quail from a place in Swansea ive seen selling on ebay ..

Ade, put your roosting bars up high, and your nest boxes down low. They always like to roost above where they lay.

 

I reckon the simpler the better.

 

Always make the roost bars out of square timber. Round is difficult for them to grip and perch on.

 

Make sure that it's easy to get in and clean. Red mites are a big problem, and if you build a place that's all nooks and crannies, if they get in they'll be an absolute sod to get rid of.

 

There are plenty of good chicken keeping forums around, have a look at some of those for ideas.

Very nice ! :thumbs: How many hens will fit comfortably in there ? I've just got an allotment, and as soon as I get it cleared, I'll be building something similar.
