Both Plummer and Hancock made a livelihood from dog's for a very long time

His name sells the dogs not the reputation of the lurchers he produces.

Ask yourself a question - If the man sold second hand cars, would you buy one?

OTC what i meant both of them made a liveing from dog's, is there is obviously some clown's lineing there pocket's, not slagging the dog or the people, but easy money is easy money. And if folk are buying, folk are breeding.

P.S. i know feck all about car's either, so would probably get stung there too. :11:

Hancock's breeding programme goes against everything that the text book (including Plummer's writings) tell you - that's all I am saying.

Take that pic of Chalkwarren's above - I think that's his (Hancock's) stud dog Romulus (or a stunt double). The yard at Hancock's is bare earth, covered in sh*t and junk, and his prize stud lives in a shack of a kennel like that. I mean, who in their right mind would shell out for a worm ridden half-cross whose parentage and line you only have his word for, and who you cannot see work because they don't.

It doesn't bode well for a great beginning in your working dog's life does it?

But as you quite rightly say, if folks constantly roll up with fat wallets for a 'Genuine Hancock Lurcher' then he will keep the collie/grey production line rolling.

I guess I qualify to comment on this thread as I was unfortunate to own two of Hancock bred bitches. The first was a half cross beardie greyhond out of remus..the first litter he bred so he [Hancock] told me, in fact I think that he kept a stud from the litter. Not bad on rabbits and with another dog okay on bigger stuff although she was a square peg in a round hole on that game... I would also question her stamina on rabbits...by three years old a nail infection put paid to her working days.

Second was a BIG mistake...lost a dog through a lamping accident and thought I would get off to a head start by having a "sapling" from him....for sapling read " dogs that didn,t sell as puppies...indifferent on rabbits...had a knack for bigger stuff but one night would run well and the next she,d run like a crab! Put to shame by my mates saluki/collie greys bred simply by putting good dog

to good bitch. She was a three quarter bred out of his stud at the time Taffy...a mate also had one , same father, different mother...CRAP. I used to describe mine as being like a "knife with a dull edge". Personally they were not nor ever will be again..for me.

What became of both bitches...both died in their teens with me!

A mate,s relation has also currently got a Hancock bitch...by all accounts not much good on the lamp but a terrific ferreting bitch..and this from a man who,s a semi-professional rabbit-catcher.

I do believe however that threads like this don,t persuade either "side" away from thier original thoughts..Why? Because it,s all subjective.. the man who catches half a dozen rabbits a night and is happy in catching that many will tell you that he,s "got a good un"..and for him he is correct. But the man who needs to catch several times that many will not be overly impressed until said cross has been really tested to his own circumstances...It,s all about subjective views.

Quick comment rgarding OTC,s comments about Plummers breeding... I had a bitch bred out of Plummers Merle cross Fathom..whelped in West Ashling in West Sussex. This bitch was apparently big for the usual size of bitches from that mating...she came in at 24.5 inches and her running weight was 48lb. She was excellent on rabbits although, again . I would question her stamina for a really hard nights rabbiting.. indeed her best was only 24 in one session. Foxes she was crappola...the game she excelled in was what we were in to at that stage in my life which was bigger stuff.. she was the reason i was able to buy my first house..through her work ethic...prematurely lost at the age of six...and I felt the loss for many years after.

In closing never met Plummer never wanted too...but I would have another like she tomorrow.

OTC, you appear to be missing the point, my whole argument is not that a Hancock is any better or any worse than all the ficticious pedigrees made up to flog pups in CMW etc, or any lurcher found in the pound although i think that may be stretching it a little, what i am saying is that if you by the cross thats aimed at your needs and mould it and nurture it like any other pup it will do its stuff the same as the rest. No it will not be crap because it has a breeders name attatched to it.

if hanckock dogs were that good i would breed of one to my owmn collie line tommorow , but prefer tried and tested workers of my own line .you get stung once why by second hand shite more than once , never saw ahackocker in the same mould as ii breed now etc,

I see your point mate, but if the breeding is not right (or could be better) or the first few months of the young pup's life is a fraught existence then you are faced with 'making a silk purse out of a sow's ear'.

It was not my intention to slag off Plummer or Hancock - if folks want to buy their dogs from him then that's their choice, but it wouldn't be mine.

The answer is putting a decent dog to a decent bitch to create a decent pup, simple as that really.

Thanks for the pics CW - my mix up between Romulus and Remus, it was 20 years ago!

its like this if 99% of hancocks dogs wernt shite .then people wouldnt be saying they were ...now ive never owned one and some people would say iam not in no position to talk about them the reason i have never owned one is because of what i have seen and heard off people who have owned them ..i have heard off a few decent ones years ago ..and there might be one our two about now ..but lets be honest hes a puppy peddling scumbag who shouldnt be allowed to breed dogs or anything else...and people who still buying of him are usally new into the game and if it catchers a bunny or two there happy ..but when they realise there are a lot better bunny dogs out there they go and buy a proper dog.. and the hancocks dog ends up in a dogs home ....so to you people who have got a good hancock dog you have done well..but dont buy another because its like winning the lottery you dont win twice....if i have hurt your feelings then iam sorry but if you keep buying these dogs you are lineing a t**ts pocket who has put no effort or time into breeding these dogs ...but thats just my thoughts on the matter... ;) the latter end of his name explains alot.. all the best ....

and another thing why the hell is this in the runningdog section. ;)
