mole trapper 1,693
Today again we have a prime example of the phobic drivvle that a section of the running dog community come out with, World.hunters asks a question about merle breeding, then its open season on Hancock dogs why dont you lot change the bloody record. Yes his place is a tip, no he does not work his dogs much, yes he is a puppy farmer. How many of you Hancock haters have ever owned one, not many of you who have will admit it if you have, why because to fit in you have to slag them off. Pathetic . The usual drivvle srarts with they cant catch a hare, bulls..t even my half cross can, but no not under coarsing conditions, hundred yards law etc, Lurchers were bred for pot filling not gambling on. Next load of cobblers, all Hancock dogs are sickly and plagued with illness, My vet reckons my two are some of the healthiest well conditioned dogs hes seen, i am not saying hes never sold a dog with a problem, lets just keep it factual. My dogs work for a living, as a rural pest controller i couldnt have mediocer dogs ,they do everything thats asked of them. I havent always had Hancocks, have had all sorts over the last thirty years, not saying these are the best others were just as good, just saying i am fed up of listening to uninformed crap from people who dont have first hand experience of them, dog ruiners dont count, or the idiot had one of those last week brigade, this week i am trying another sort. Anyone got the balls to actually come out of the closet and admit they have ever given one a fair chance. constructive replies please , not the usual i,ll challenge you to try against my saluki/grey...... on you know the sort of thing. Chaz 6
I`ve had 3 Hancock dogs over the last 13 years and had no problems with any of them none of them have been world beaters but then again none of them have been useless either, I have had other types in the past and know doubt will in the future but if a dog does as you ask what does it matter, and yes I have obviously had people telling me my dogs are no good even without seeing them because they are Hancock bred but at the end of the day I got the dogs for my enjoyment not theirs so it` water off a ducks back I`m afraid Hancock bred 3/8 5/8 aged 91/2 with a rabbit she caught today and my other 3/8 5/8 18 months old and coming on well if short of a bit of work due to the amount of myxy I seem to be faced with this season Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
For every "bashing" thread there will be a "bum licking" one so its swings and roundabouts really, most people who have been in the game a while know what the man is all about (£) and they steer clear Quote Link to post
FERRETBOY 680
well said mole trapper and chaz,i have also a hancock bred shes not the best but i get alot of sport out of her.she could be alot better (im talking about obediance wise) if she wasnt such a nervous puppy but as a worker shes a great rabbiter but would make a better grade if we had more game to run her at. good hunting rew Quote Link to post
Guest Paula
Maybe its jealousy that get people slatted, at the end of the day people have the choice where they buy there pups from. Quote Link to post
tote 854
It's the British mentality isn't it.always quicker to knock someone than praise them. What get's my goat are the amount of folk that slag his dogs off yet have never had one, some of them have never even seen one,yet they still think they are qualified to have an opinion I am in the above position so can't say aye or nae.But I won't be jumping on the bandwagon and slagging his dogs off, why? Because i've got a mind of my own  Quote Link to post
MickC 1,825
How many times has Hancock dogs come up on here ?Ive seen a few good Hancock dogs what mates have owned and Ive also seen a few poor ones. There is good and bad in all breeds of dogs, however the difference is that Hancock breeds for money and nothing else.Nervous puppys are well known faults with this line as they are not socialised.People would be better off buying a pup from someone who has the good of this cross at heart and not breeding for money alone but who is breeding to better his own line.Working dogs should be bred from working parents not from a production line were they are kept in crap conditions.Like I said I have seen good dogs from his stuff, but the amount he breeds is bound to throw a few good ones out. Guest baldie
I owned a 3/4 bred grey/border from him, and it was very good dog, in my opinion, except it was disobediant, and that was my fault as a shit trainer, but the dog filled the game bag regularly, she unfortunatly met an untimely end, involving a fox and the M1 in rush hour. I went to him, because i wanted that exact cross, but with hindsight, and a little more age about me, i wouldn,t perpetuate his buisness, his pocket, or the truly disgusting kennels he rears dogs in, he is the worst kind of puppy peddler going, and i,m amazed he has never been shut down. He also hasn,t bred from working stock, in a hell of a long time. Quote Link to post
Moorman 1 1,379
Not this boring old knock Hancock shit again, you lot should get out and work your dogs more. If you want a genuine collie cross that is what the breeder says it is then theres nothing wrong with buying from Hancock,it will be what he says it is. If you pick up your pup @ 8 weeks then the socialising etc is up to you.The Beardie crosses have better, tougher feet, skin etc than the straight Border crosses. Its all down to the person on the other end of the lead, don't knock them until you have tried one. Quote Link to post
parkstone 24
Its all down to the person on the other end of the lead fully agree many a potentialy good pup has been ruined by a prat. Quote Link to post
Guest furryferter
I think youve answered it yourself mole trapper his place is a tip he is a puppy pedelar and more importanly of all THE PARENTS DO NOT WORK end of story Quote Link to post
Moorman 1 1,379
Hancock may not work all his dogs but he gets plenty of feedback from the people that have bought pups from him.His Greyhounds are usually ex track dogs and his original collies have all been purchased from generations of proven workers. To be honest if you mated anything to a sighthound it would work given the chance to do so. Quote Link to post

mole trapper 1,693
Furry ferreter, you obviously have a strong opinion on this as you felt it needed two replies, So you have obviously owned one and found it to be lacking in some way, please enlighten us on what the fault was with it. . Or could it be you are another follow the crowd, but has no first hand knowledge on the subject but still feel entitled to rubbish something youve never tried, please oh please let it be the former. Moorman 1, you should have read the thread, i am not bashing them , quite the contrary. Quote Link to post

Sorry Moorman can't agree[if you pick up your pup @ 8 weeks then the socialising etc is up to you] if the pups are not socialised by 8 weeks you are going to struggle IMO. A short while ago my mate and I made the mistake of buying two 9 week old pups[not from Hancock] that we realised soon after we got them home they had had next to no human contact.Four weeks later the dog pup was no better every time my mate went up to him he would flee then crouch in a corner trembling with p*ss and sh*t flying out of it.The bitch was only slightly better, the prick that bred them has a lot to answer for, what thefeck was he thinking?
