Is this Legal ?

Hi Folks,

Just a quick question, just waiting for my new FAC, I have a new Ruger 10 22 on standby, But I am going to need a moderator.

 

So I can't go and buy a moderator for it as I don't have my ticket yet, but is it legal for someone to "gift" me a moderator or is it illegal for me to be in possesion of one ?

 

The same question goes out for a 10 shot mag ?

 

or does it fall in the same catagory as shotgun cartridges, you can't buy them, but it's perfectly legal to keep some that someone has given you.

You can go and buy a moderator if it is not proofed.

 

Once proofed it is a FAC tool and you need an appropriately worded FAC to buy it.

 

The moment you screw your NON FAC moderator onto your FAC rifle it becomes FAC in its own right, and you must have the slot/advise your region you have a moderator (no proof mark is required here, it's still FAC)!

Yes, I have applied for moderator on my FAC, just waiting for it to arrive now in the next few weeks (So the police say) so might still be months.

 

I am just getting everything ready, scope, lamp, camo gear, flask, you name it I got it so far,

 

Just need a moderator and a bipod now and I am done, but not sure if I can get hold of a moderator anywere before my ticket arrives,

 

So do you mean, it's not legal for me to have one at the moment. ( I assume they all must be proofed then ? )

As nod said, just go and buy a SAK, about the cheapest and pretty much as effective as anything on a .22. As long as you are over 18 you can buy it over the counter without any problems and simply say it is for an air gun if asked, nobody really cares. Another bit of stupid legislation. Forget about proofing, a complete nonsense for rimfire.

Even proofed mods are not firearms until you fit it to your gun.

They can be bought off ticket but require to be on ticket when you fit it to the rifle.

 

You don`t even need an FAC to buy a mod, but if you hav no FAC with a slot for it, then you commit an offence when you fit it to a rifle.

You may be correct, but, please advise where you can buy a PROOFED mod off ticket.

 

To get proof a mod has been fitted to a FAC tool, it therefore technically becomes a FAC tool and can only be sold on ticket. That is my understanding.

 

Please tell me where that is wrong.

Even if a person is in possession of a silencer with no evidence linking it to a suitable weapon, the possession alone is not an offence.

 

If you are under the age of 14, then all gift's and that person who supplied those gift's commits an offence.

 

A silencer is an accessory.

 

I'd wait for your FAC, there are many loop holes involved in S1 Firearms Offences.

Mods can be supplied proofed from brand new,proofed at the factory and then sold unused and new. I got mine on e-bay (wildcat P8 £50 with the insert brand new)

Came from a wholesale dealer who was not an RFD. My local RFD put it on my ticket for me. So they are available.

So, seeing as Wildcat are English how does that work?

 

And What insert in a P8 Brand new at £50?

i cant see why you cant buy a proofed mod if you wanted it for air gun. as deker says though soon as you put it on your rifle it becomes a firearm.

243 insert in a P8 mod ,whole shebang new for 50 bucks

 

I have been thinking about this and I may be wrong. I bought the mod new but I am not 100% that it had been sent away to be "proofed". The mod is available to be bought new to anybody, same as any mod, ,,,,Proofed may be a different issue because it has been at Birmingham , and been fitted to an FAC,, not 100% as I say so open to debate on that one.

Here's how it's proofed.

 

Factory makes said moderator or more likely a whole crate full.

 

Sends them to Birmingham

 

Returned from Birmingham to the Factory

 

Put into box

 

Sold.

 

That is how you would get factory fresh proofed, or is that too stupidly simple to be true in this world of red tape.

You just tell them you have transferred it from a non-FAC rifle.
