SalukiBULLJP 27 Posted March 21, 2011 Report Share Posted March 21, 2011 Any tips on how to bring her on with other dogs smoothly without starting her off too soon and too hard??....I.ve another bedlington x whippet bitch 18month just starting to work well on her own but am wanting to start my saluki x bull/greyhound with my mates saluki x bull and bull x Greyhound and his band of 6 crazy terriers(patterdale x lakey x jack russells).... Any advice or help would be apreciated as ive done a good job getting them to this point as both started off bad in life but are the talk of the town each time i slip em off the lead.....my main concern is that i dont start them off too early as to not break their confidence.....nice dogs seem hard to come by these days... Guest thebigdog Posted March 21, 2011 Report Share Posted March 21, 2011 the seasons over for most lad, id leave it till september. as for getting it keen, well it will have it in him or it wont, give him a couple of easy slips on rabbit in septand youll find out. dont know what you mean when you say bring him on with other dogs, is it just starting two dogs hunting at the same time, or do you mean sliping more than one dog on the quary at the sametime.(wouldnt, dogs likey to get injured). as for hares im pretty sure they are illegal in your country. So wouldnt, unless you fancy a big fine and a criminal record. also well done for taking on damaged dogs, many wouldnt even bother. good luck. james Quote Link to post

When a rabbit hits the net let nature take its course. Renet the hole before taking the rabbit off the dog, plenty of praise and take it from there. 1 Quote Link to post

Cheers for the sound advice lads........ as for the above{im only looking at getting both young dogs used to my pals other dogs for now and im sure the rest will come in due time once they settle down and watch the older dogs earn their crust.....i was unaware about the legality of runing down hare so once again cheers... Small steps will do just fine i reckon,just so pleased with how theyve both come on and flourished together,cracking personalities..!!!...I've not had a single bad comment on either of my bitches since i took each of em on and are both showing great signs of being some useful tools when theyre needed. Im so keen to do whats right for the pups,was told id have nothin but problems with my Saluki X bull as they can often be hard work and stubborn at times yet i seem to be gettin nothin but good signs and a strong bond with her...in fact she's thriving on my instruction and its that that makes me want to keep her on the upward learning curve.....my single concern is that i start em off too soon and weaken that bond and risk losing what good work ive already done... hickymick 37 Posted March 22, 2011 Report Share Posted March 22, 2011 season is never over for rats,make sure your jabs are upto date,but to learn them how to cope and work with terrieres this is good way cos its fast action you could just keep yours to heel,to let them get used to terrier pack, ready for rabbits next year,,just a thought to help with socializing lurchers with your pack atb mick Quote Link to post
