Spaniel x Terrier crosses

Its probably been discussed here before, but im wondering on your views on a suitable cross to put over my hard hunting spaniel bitch. I want to put a bit of fire into the pups cause at the moment when she hunts foxes she wont finish them at the end of a hunt. But I also want her bidability and stamina and her smallish size. ANY IDEAS????

I know what you mean mate I shouldnt have made it look like i wanted the bitch to finish all the foxes she comes across. I go out regular with a sprocker bitch and she is a demon on them. I was comparing her to her.

you can get hard spaniel's that will do the job a bit of russell and beagle in the mix whould make them very handy tools atb

buy yourself a decent lurcher for the despatching side of things and breed a litter of spanials and keep a pup back ....... feck me i dont know how i think of this stuff....... as i said a bit radical . wow a dog bred for the job instead of a mismash that wont do the job as well.. astounding i should be teaching this stuff somwhere!

I aint trying to re-invent the wheel mate, I just thought that if you had Spaniel blood in the mix then you would have more biddability than some of the bushing dogs you see that are hunting 2 fields away. As for a dog bred for the job instead of a mishmash, well thats 90% of lurchers aint it??? a dash of this and that. Ive seen bull greyhounds jib on foxes and smaller crosses take em with ease. Why not put a good hard hunting spaniel to a decent terrier for my own use??? And as for the teaching bit you know what they say.... those who can do, those who cant, teach.

JMO but I'd be looking for a pup from your mates sprocker instead, lined with a spaniel of the same calibre.

Not just spaniels mate, Me an me mate hunt together a couple of spaniels, a couple of russells, a beagle, a three quarter bedlington whippet and a pure whippet.

We get our fair share...

Sounds a good day out unless the russels fly to ground and then it sounds a nightmare with all the other dogs milling about.

ive been there, my old terrier baying away not collored up and two whippets wondering about like lost sheep.

this is a 7 year old cocker x patterdale.will hunt all day long and go to ground in the bigger spots.came from a local farm as a pup and is a cracking worker.will bush all day long, swim anything and finish her quarry off no problem.

Great looking bitch that, can't go wrong with the pat if you want the fox finished. Imo jonny

Why not the whippet or the beddy whippet? Good nose but of pace and balls to spare. Would be interested in a pup if you do. Yis jonny.
