Tyla 3,179
We've been ratting the same place for the last few weeks. There are tonnes of rats but we've struggled to get them bolting and made hard work of it up til now. Not sure what was different today, maybe shallower less established buries, but they bolted well. The keeper sent us to a different fenceline where he'd seen two rats yesterday and the dogs bolted them without help from the smoker. We carried on up the fenceline, a mixture of digging and smoking, the dogs were working really well and missed very few. The only fly in the ointment was Ollie, my terrier, who insisted of carrying all the dead rats out into the field and putting herdwick through a bit of a work out! He made up for it though, putting the work in all day and doing his fair share of marking and digging as well as making kills. We ended up on 43 rats, not many good pictures (we didnt have David Bailey aka Blackstaff on the team today) but a very good day! Quote Link to post

Dont know why Ollie does it, little toad! If you can get away next sunday do you fancy an early start, have a crack at the trout at chalk springs followed by a bit of ratting? Quote Link to post
herdwick 52
Could have done with Billy and his offer of piggy backs to look after the older generation!! On a serious note, dont know what was different about today, but the buggers were bolting. Made for a good day, even if the poor old bugger was having to hobble round the field to get the deduns away from Ollie Keepers wife was delighted at our efforts so we are welcome back next week Quote Link to post
