Great weekend with Andy and Davy

Recommended Posts

Hi lads,

Just wanted to say a big thank you to Andy and Adele for looking after me and Laura all weekend, putting us up in their lovely house and being friendly towards us and making us feel very welcome. They are both true friends of ours.

Also to Davy for lending me his NV scope and being a generally good mate and shooting with me and Andy over this weekend.

We basically had a weekend of target shooting to extreme air rifle ranges from Andy’s home range, hunting feather in the day time and fur at night followed by a HFT comp today in Swindon.

Andy shot the best shot I have seen in 2011 yesterday when we went hunting feather with a lased 61 yard woody, knocking it straight out the tree with his AAS410 and Falcon Accuracy pellet. He then followed up with a 47 yard rook straight through the heart killing it before it hit the floor. He then took a rabbit with his NV scope at night very nicely indeed.

Davy was just Davy thwacking jackdaws and rooks with his normal pin point accuracy at all ranges and angles, not giving them a chance in the world.

I had a nice bit of feather at a lased 39 metres with my r10 with its first shot of the day then a rabbit with the NV scope at night at some distance between 30 to 40 metres (not sure) which I didn’t hit cleanly (neck shot) due to bad range estimation through the NV device that Davy finished for me very quickly with a second shot to save it any more suffering.

Im still claiming it though Davy as it didnt run off once hit, just spin around in a circle :tongue2:

Shooting with NV was an experience for me as I found out that looking through a NV scope on the move gave me motion sickness and I nearly puked 2 times LOL.

Today before HFT I had 2 woodys both at a lased 44 metres (46 / 47 yards) from the standing un supported position which for me were my best shots all weekend due to being standing un supported. They both took off and flew abit on impact before crash landing, 1 on the ground dead and one into a fir tree hard before hitting the ground dead. Talk about a delayed reaction and survival instinct :boogie: .

I also shot a witnessed .22 calibre (r10) 15 mm edge to edge 10 shot group with 5 pellets actually stacked up on each other (pellet on pellet) falling out the back stop at 27 yards after the 5th shot.

Andy also shot a great group too with a .177 10 shot 13 mm edge to edge group.

Today at HFT it was very windy at the target end giving us some real tricky shots, with some shots needing 1 to 1.5 inch of left hand side to hit cleanly.

Despite this fact we all had a brilliant time and a great laugh all together.

The shooting was of a very high standard due to the wind and tricky targets, proven by the good final scores.

LJ did her usual trick by pulling off a shot at target number 30 that would have made any member on here happy.

She took a standing unsupported 35 to 37 yard 25 mm kill zone first shot in a cheeky wind hitting it perfectly and knocking it over. I was well proud of her as it took me 3 attempts, Davy 2 attempts and Andy 5 attempts to get the same results.

She also pulled off some cracking shots at the other targets gaining a brilliant first time score with a .22 rifle in the wind of 36 points.

For a person who has only shot 4 times in here life she’s brilliant and has lots of potential as she was shooting a right handed stock on .22 rifle when she is left handed, no bipod was used at all and she shot by the same rules as the more experienced men.

Well done LJ.

I wont say any more about the HFT comp or results as i think Davy will put that post up.

Thanks again to everybody that made our weekend so special.

 Charlie.

The picture is blown up and cut which makes the lump of lead look large but in actual fact as you seen in real life it would of been easily covered by a single drawing pin.

Yep Ste its a shame that you didnt manage to make it pal as there was about 10 of us in 2 groups today and we had a really good time.

The wind was tricky again like it was that last time buddy where at the rifle end we could hardly feel a wind but in them woods the wind was blowing cheekily from left to right and the reset cords were getting a right bend blew into them.

Some shots we were giving it 1 inch left and the pellet was landing 1/2 a inch right of the 20mm kill zone :o Now thats some wind.

The r10 did her stuff though buddy ;)

AWWWW It looks like it's been a great weekend!

Sore :censored: point here why I couldn't get away for it but, I'm honestly glad the weather seems to have behaved itself and bags have been bagged, shots have been shot and everyone enjoyed getting together and doing it all good and proper..

Amazing shot on a pidgeon at 61 yards Andy, that's bloody going for it mate. My compliments on your marksmanship here Andy and to everyone who shot well this weekend. Wind is wind and it's part and parcel of the conditions we have to contend with.

Hey Si, seems you have a genuine shooter with you in Laura. Great to hear the progress she makes with each outing  Goddamit I have to bring my trusty spring rifles down there and ballance out all these remarkable PCP bike pumps you guys all swear by.

Saturday I consoled myself with a shoot on my permission. Beautiful day and evening. Nailed a rabbit and got three Magpies baited with him! Now feeling like a complete saddo shooting on my own, after seeing the pics and reading the write-ups.

Still, weather looks good for tomorrow/Monday and I've got AndyFR1968 coming over at lunchtime for a shoot on my permission with me. Maybe Davy will be joining us too soon. Looking forward to reading his HFT write up!

Thank you so much for inviting me Andy. If there is a next time I would be delighted to join such great company with you.

All the best to everyone involved.

Simon
